The Red Hat OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in our Ireland (Waterford) or Czech Republic (Brno) offices. In this role you will work as a member of a highly dynamic and collaborative team which is responsible for providing OpenTelemetry and Distributed Tracing solutions for OpenShift. Development focus will be on active participation in the upstream OpenTelemetry open source communities and working with other internal teams to help deliver on our OpenTelemetry and observability goals. As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the team's capabilities and deliverables by demonstrating technical competence, initiative, creativity, learning, sharing, and teamwork while collaborating with a global team and stakeholders.
The position is onsite in either our Waterford or Brno offices for 4 - 5 days a week.
What you will do:
* Work with the rest of the OpenTelemetry team to design, develop and deliver on our OpenTelemetry solutions.
* Collaborate with and be an active member of the OpenTelemetry open source community. Represent Red Hat's position in open source communities.
* Collaborate with other observability teams at Red Hat, such as the Distributed Tracing, Metrics or Logging teams.
* Work with, advise, and collaborate with other teams at Red Hat or our customers on their OpenTelemetry needs.
* Work as part of an agile team to actively communicate status and complete deliverables on schedule.
What you will bring:
* A willingness to proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.
* Experience with Go development
* Comprehension of standard engineering practices relevant to enterprise software development.
* Good understanding of Observability principles.
* Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes or other cloud native technologies is a plus
* Experience with Jaeger, Tempo, Loki, Prometheus or similar observability solutions is a plus
