Legal Advisor Opportunity

This role involves providing expert legal advice to council officers and elected members, ensuring that the council's land and property portfolio is safeguarded. Key responsibilities include drafting, issuing, monitoring, and advising on legal documentation such as leases, licenses, contracts, tender documents, and funding agreements.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Law or a related legal qualification and minimum 1 year of experience in conveyancing and contract law. Competence in Microsoft Office packages is also essential. A valid driving license and access to transport are required for this position.

In addition to the core qualifications, desirable criteria include professional qualification to practice as a solicitor, 2 years of experience in conveyancing and contract law, and experience in providing legal advice in a public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide professional legal advice to Council Officers and elected members.
">
* Draft, issue, monitor, and advise on legal documentation such as leases, licenses, contracts, tender documents, and funding agreements.

* Safeguard the Council's land and property portfolio, managing adverse possession claims and possessory title applications.
">
* Conduct legal research and maintain an index of useful cases and drafts.
">
* Negotiate, draft, and settle contract documents and agreements.
">
* Monitor the provision of legal services and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
">
* Support asset management, including the transfer, letting, acquisition, and disposal of Council land and property assets.
">
* Ensure adherence to Council policies, procedures, and statutory obligations.
">

Essential Criteria:

* A degree in Law or a related legal qualification.
">
* Minimum 1 year of experience in conveyancing and contract law.
">
* Competence in Microsoft Office packages.
">
* Valid driving license and access to transport.
">
* Ability to work outside normal office hours.

Desirable Criteria:

* Professional qualification to practice as a solicitor.

* 2 years of experience in conveyancing and contract law.

* Experience in providing legal advice in a public sector environment.

* Experience in the analysis and interpretation of maps and site layout drawings.
