The Mid West became the blueprint for Children's Disability services in 2005 when six CNDT were established.A 7th and 8th CDNT have recently been established They are multi-agency interdisciplinary teams, with different lead agencies, providing services for children with complex needs from birth to 18 years of age, committed to the progression of the PDS programme and its underlying principles. The CDNT continue to transition to a more Family Centred Practice Model of Service, and this requires a significant culture shift for staff, as they try to navigate a more interdisciplinary model of service, while still maintaining their clinical expertise and competencies. In line with the national Guidance on Specialist Supports document, the support of clinicians with specialist knowledge and experience may be required for a small number of children with exceptional needs within a number of client cohorts.Part of the new governance framework for the CDNT includes a Clinical Advisory Group, whose responsibility it is to provide advice and guidance for the implementation of clinical governance in collaboration with existing and future processes for assessment, implementation and monitoring of compliance against national and regulatory standards and legislation.
