Communicare is a private, family-owned Irish healthcare provider committed to delivering world-class care across a range of services including residential care. Our residential service for adults with intellectual disabilities offers personalised, person-centred support in a nurturing environment, delivered by a team of Social Care Workers, Nurses, and Assistants. This service operates in collaboration with the HSE CHW region and supports five service users in a home-like setting with 24/7 care.
Position Overview: As the Team Lead - Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse, you will play a central leadership role within the residential team, directly supporting five adults with intellectual disabilities. You will be supported in this role by the Person In Charge (PIC) and the wider external management team. This is a hands-on position, providing clinical oversight, coordinating daily care activities, and guiding the care team to deliver safe, compassionate, person-led support. You will work closely with families, multidisciplinary teams, and external agencies to ensure each service user’s holistic needs are met in accordance with HIQA standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the on-floor clinical lead and shift coordinator, ensuring smooth operation of day-to-day care routines.
* Support and mentor clinical and social care staff, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care and compliance with care plans.
* Oversee and document the administration of prescribed medication in line with best practices.
* Provide and oversee clinical care as required, which may include PEG feeding, tracheostomy care, urinary catheter care, and medication management.
* Promote independence and skill-building in personal care, daily living, and community integration.
* Participate in the planning and delivery of individualised programs tailored to each service user’s strengths and goals.
* Foster meaningful engagement with service users, encouraging self-worth and inclusion.
* Liaise with families and members of the multidisciplinary team to support care planning and reviews.
* Respond appropriately to incidents, safeguarding concerns, or complaints and maintain accurate records.
* Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive living environment by modelling and supporting appropriate housekeeping routines.
* Participate in team meetings, staff forums, and ongoing professional development.
* Support PIC with audits, documentation, and adherence to HIQA and Health Act 2007 standards.
* Drive company vehicles as needed to support service user activities and appointments.
* Be available for a flexible rota, including sleepovers and night shifts when required.
Qualifications And Requirements
* Minimum NMBI Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse
* CORU registration or eligibility to register with the Social Care Workers Registration Board (desirable).
* Demonstrated experience in disability, or residential care settings.
* Good knowledge of HIQA regulations, safeguarding, and risk management practices.
* Proven team leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Full, clean driver’s license (essential).
