Eye Care Specialist Role

Ophthalmic technicians, also known as eye care specialists, play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. They collaborate closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide top-notch patient care.

Main Responsibilities:

* Assist with diagnostic procedures, such as retinoscopy and tonometry.
* Prepare patients for exams by administering eye drops and measuring visual acuity.
* Take and develop X-rays and other imaging studies.
* Support ophthalmologists and optometrists during minor surgical procedures, like cataract removal.
* Maintain equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.

Qualifications and Skills:

* Associate degree or higher in ophthalmic technology or a related field is required.
* Registration with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is necessary.
* A minimum of 5 years of experience working in an ophthalmic setting is expected.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Certification Information:

* American Society of Ophthalmic Registry and Examinations (ASORE) certification is highly desirable.
