The Mater Misericordiae University hospital (MMUH) has been designated as the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the central trauma network.
Phase 1 of this initiative involved the planning and establishment of a new trauma service the new acute trauma ward and the opening of a dedicated 9 bed trauma rehabilitation ward.
We are now in Phase 2 of the plan and accepting secondary transfers.
The two senior occupational therapists and rotational staff grade therapist will be part of the wider MDT including, trauma surgeons, trauma neurology, geriatrics rehabilitation physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, trauma and rehab coordinators, nursing, psychology, medical social work, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietician and therapy assistant.
Within the occupational therapy department service structure, acute trauma and trauma rehab sit with a wider network of critical care, surgery, spinal and orthopaedics.
