GMC are currently looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
Responsibilities
Assist in the identification of commercial risks and opportunities and carry out value engineering exercises as required.
Prepare and manage material procurement schedules.
Encourage and develop a culture of contractual awareness and ensure that contracts are fulfilled by rigorously maintaining records, contractual notifications, change control, etc.
Prepare internal cost/value reports for upper management and other departments.
Review and update risk registers, variation trackers and extension of time tracker sheets monthly and include them within monthly reports.
Prepare cost reports and review project cost reports.
Attend monthly management meetings, report on commercial issues, and offer opinion on matters arising.
Procure subcontractors and conduct account reviews during the project.
Provide daily liaison with the accounts department.
Review supplier requisitions and accounts.
Review subcontractor documents and update templates, including appointment documents and payment certificates.
Measure, price, negotiate and agree budgets and costs for variations to project scope.
Ensure project costs are correct and raise/resolve queries where necessary.
Manage commercial and contractual aspects of relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors.
Assess subcontractor payment entitlement and process payments.
Reconcile cost and value-to-date/forecast to keep the management team informed of project performance.
Assist in the guidance and development of junior surveyors.
Maintain overall project budgets and look for opportunities to maximise revenue, reduce cost, and investigate losses.
Advise on contractual matters at both general and project level.
Process contractual claims and associated records.
Assist with project cash management and support project correspondence.
Negotiate and agree on subcontractors and suppliers’ terms.
Ensure final accounts are closed in a timely manner.
Draft commercial/contractual correspondence promptly.
Prepare subcontractor and supplier documents and review monthly cost reports.
Negotiate subcontractors and suppliers’ final accounts.
Handle variations: measurement, pricing, and negotiation with client, quantity surveyor and subcontractor.
Qualifications
Experience in civils, drainage, or utilities (water & electricity) is essential.
Minimum 10+ years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction or utilities sector.
Professional qualification in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management or equivalent is essential.
Knowledge of NEC contracts.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
Full clean driver’s licence.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Confident, motivated, can work independently, is a team player, and can manage a team.
Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail.
Strategic mindset with time‑management abilities to meet targets, monitor progress and budgets, and report on performance.
Excellent relationship‑management and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with colleagues to find the best solutions to challenges.
