Relief Social Care Assistant
Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for this position. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge.
Purpose of the Post
The post holder will take an active part in ensuring that the day‑to‑day operations of the Service reflect the ethos and vision of CCoI and that all coworkers meet the needs of the individuals supported. The post holder will work as part of a day and residential support team, working intensively with individuals to discover what constitutes a good life for them and to establish what supports they need to achieve their goals. The role requires a high degree of flexibility as the timing and location of supports will be dictated by the individual’s plan. The shared responsibilities include proactive team participation and positive contribution to effective teamwork.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Advocacy & Rights
o Respect each person as an equal citizen.
o Uphold and respect the human, legal and constitutional rights of each person, recognizing their individuality and equality and empowering them to grow, achieving the highest possible level of personal autonomy.
o Facilitate, encourage and develop the choice‑and‑decision‑making skills of people who use the services.
o Facilitate, encourage and develop the self‑advocacy skills and opportunities for involvement in advocacy.
o Enable each individual supported by the services to pursue and maintain their hobbies and interests.
o Foster, encourage and develop the self‑help and social skills of each individual so as to achieve the greatest degree of autonomy possible.
o Facilitate active participation and integration into the community, through the use of generic community facilities.
* Person‑Centred Support for Living
o Ensure a person‑centred approach to service delivery.
o Support individuals with aspects of individual and group service responses, including:
+ Occupation and leisure activities
+ Communication
+ Behaviour support plans
+ Independent living skills
+ Social integration and use of community facilities
+ Personal care
+ Personal development
o Assist with fostering, encouraging and developing self‑care skills, particularly in relation to personal hygiene, health matters and care for appearance.
o Support the individual with appropriate physical support – moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility and communication needs.
o Provide personal care – dressing, bathing, toileting, assistance with eating, sleeping support, skin care, first aid and health promotion.
o Attend all medical appointments as required.
o Ensure a healthy and nutritious diet is offered, taking individual choice into account.
o Encourage and promote full participation in the home, while maintaining the home and its environs to acceptable standards ensuring each resident has access to comprehensive, person‑centred and holistic personal support.
o Implement person‑centred plans in consultation with the individual and address identified needs; participate in resident reviews as required.
o Achieve competency in driving the centre transport and participate in transport duties as required – flexible starting and finishing times may be necessary.
o Accept delegated responsibility for the physical and emotional well‑being and personal hygiene of individuals supported by the service.
o Assist with the organisation of centre outings.
* Management and Leadership
o Be responsible for the physical and emotional well‑being of individuals supported by the service.
o Be responsible for the safe use and care of equipment and report faulty equipment as it arises.
o Contribute actively to the team while providing consistent and quality support for vulnerable adults.
o Ensure policies, procedures and codes of practice are adhered to.
o Maintain and keep up‑to‑date and correctly filed records of individuals supported by the service – personal needs assessments, risk assessments, incident reports, file notes, communication plans, behavioural management support, health action plans, medication management and financial records.
o Ensure accurate reports, timesheets and financial statements are completed and returned on time.
o Report all accidents/incidents and take appropriate action.
o Utilise transport services efficiently and advise staff on transport needs.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
* Hold a minimum of a QQI Level 5 Major Award on the QQI Framework – BA in Social Care Studies or an equivalent qualification in Community/Health or Social Care.
* Have at least 1 year of experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
* Understand current policy and developments at national and sectoral level in relation to Social Care within disability services.
* Ability to follow plans and methods to meet the ongoing needs of the individuals supported.
* Proficient interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
* Proficient IT skills relevant to the role, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.
* A full driver’s licence and availability of own car – an essential requirement.

Details of the Role
Salary Scale: €30,272 per annum (based on a 40‑hour week) PRO RATA
Location: Ballymoney Lower, Gorey, Co. Wexford
Duration: RELIEF CONTRACT – Fixed term one year
