Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) Galway (Office Lead)
A leading, sustainability-driven building services consultancy is looking for an experienced Principal Design Engineer to head up its new Galway office. This is a senior leadership role suitable for either a mechanical or electrical engineer with strong technical ability, project leadership experience, and the drive to build and grow a regional team.
This role offers the chance to lead local operations, shape the future of a new office, and work on a diverse portfolio of high-quality projects across education, public sector, heritage, and commercial developments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Galway office and manage all aspects of team performance and project delivery
* Deliver high-quality mechanical or electrical engineering design across a range of building projects
* Ensure projects meet performance, quality, and budget expectations
* Act as a key point of contact for clients and help strengthen long-term relationships
* Play a strategic role in developing the Galway office, including business development and recruitment
* Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and career growth
* Champion best practice and sustainability-led design within the team
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
* 8+ years experience in a building services design role, with proven leadership on complex projects
* Proficient in relevant design software (e.g. Revit, IES, Amtech)
* Knowledge of BIM processes and environmental assessment methods such as BREEAM
* Strong client relationship management and business development skills
* Full right to work in Ireland
