Clinical Lead Nurse – 12-Month Maternity Cover
Family-Friendly Community Role | Athlone, Co. Westmeath
€46,000 – €48,500 per year + bonus
Monday to Friday | Covering Longford, Roscommon & Westmeath
Are you an experienced nurse who wants to stay close to care, but move away from shift work?
Bluebird Care is looking for a Clinical Lead Nurse to join our Athlone-based team on a 12-month maternity cover contract.
This is a family-friendly, Monday-to-Friday role where your clinical skills will make a real difference to people living at home. You will work directly with service users, families, carers and healthcare professionals to ensure care is safe, personal, respectful and delivered to a high standard.
This role is not about being hidden behind a desk. It is about being visible, approachable and clinically confident – supporting people and families at important moments in their care journey.
We are a small, supportive local team where people are known by name, decisions are made quickly, and service users and families come first.
Why this role is different
A Monday-to-Friday role with a more family-friendly working pattern
A salary of €46,000 – €48,500 per year plus bonus
A role where you deal directly with service users and their families
A move away from hospital shift patterns while still using your nursing experience
A community-based role where relationships, trust and communication really matter
A supportive local team with strong values and a practical, people-first approach
The opportunity to influence care quality without losing the human side of nursing
You will be joining a service where kindness, dignity, respect and good judgement matter every day.
About the Role
As Clinical Lead Nurse, you will support the delivery of safe, person-centred care across our homecare services in Longford, Roscommon and Westmeath.
You will meet with service users and families, complete assessments, review care plans, support more complex care needs, liaise with healthcare professionals and provide clinical guidance to our care team.
A key part of this role is helping families feel reassured, listened to and supported. You will often be the person who helps turn worry into confidence by making sure the right care is in place.
The role is based from Athlone, Co. Westmeath, with travel across the region.
What You Will Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
Meeting service users and families to assess care needs and review ongoing support
Developing, reviewing and updating person-centred care plans
Acting as an advocate for service users and ensuring their wishes are respected
Supporting safe, high-quality, evidence-based care in the home
Providing clinical advice, guidance and reassurance to families and care staff
Liaising with GPs, PHNs, hospitals, HSE teams and other healthcare professionals
Identifying risks early and putting practical safeguards in place
Supporting safeguarding procedures in line with Bluebird Care policies
Helping care staff feel confident, supported and clear in the care they provide
Promoting a culture of kindness, professionalism, accountability and respect
While you will provide clinical leadership to the care team, this is very much a people-facing role with regular contact with service users and families.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is clinically strong, but also warm, calm and practical.
The right person will be able to build trust quickly with service users and families. You will be comfortable having sensitive conversations, making sound clinical decisions and supporting people who may be worried or uncertain about care.
You will take pride in high standards, but you will also understand that excellent homecare depends on compassion, consistency and respect.
This role would suit a nurse who enjoys working with people, solving problems, supporting families and making care feel personal.
The right fit for Bluebird Care will be someone who shares our values: kindness, reliability, respect, accountability and a genuine commitment to putting service users and families first.
