Job Description: Fibre Network Surveyor
Location
: Dublin(field-based)
Employment Type
: Full-time
Role Overview
As a Fibre Network Surveyor you will:
* Survey and validate routes on the existing telecoms copper network infrastructure (ducts, chambers, poles, facades, MDUs) to prepare for fibre installation.
* Walk the field routes, inspect existing infrastructure (ducts, chambers, poles, façade access, MDUs) and log status, condition, constraints, and way-leave/permission issues.
* Use digital GIS/field-mapping apps (e.g., ArcGIS Field Maps, tablets or smartphones) to capture data, photos, update attributes in ArcGIS Survey Maps.
* Coordinate with desk-based network planners/designers: produce clean survey deliverables, highlight special engineering difficulties (SEDs), civil works requirements, way-leave or permission issues, alternatives.
* Work on multi-dwelling units (MDUs), façades and pole/duct infrastructure — you'll need to identify existing telecoms plant, deliver feasible fibre-upgrade routes, and propose practical solutions.
* Be a problem-solver: when you discover unexpected plant or obstructions, you'll propose alternatives, escalate where needed, and collaborate with the team to keep build momentum.
* Ensure health & safety compliance in field work (risk assessments, site safety, working at height if required, traffic management where relevant).
* Survey in various environments, sometimes in challenging outdoor environments, sometimes in building complexes.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct on-site surveys of existing copper telecom network infrastructure (ducts, chambers, poles), façades and MDUs, capturing accurate geo-data, photographic evidence and condition reports.
* Use GIS/field mapping apps to record existing plant, potential conflicts (third-party utilities, buildings, heritage, traffic), and compile route options.
* Produce survey deliverables: Update survey maps attributes, upload photos, sketches or digital mark-ups, risk/obstruction registers, way-leave/permission logs.
* Work closely with design/planning teams to feed survey data and highlight where civil works (new ducts, manholes, pole replacements) or special access is required.
* Identify and log Special Engineering Difficulties (SEDs) and environmental, traffic-management or permission constraints.
* Liaise with stakeholders: building managers (for MDUs), home owners (for façade installs).
* Stay safe in the field: complete site risk assessments, follow company and project H&S policies, report any hazards or incidents.
Required Skills & Experience
* Minimum 2 years' experience in telecoms survey, fibre network build or related field-based design/support role (surveying ducts/chambers/poles/MDUs).
* Strong field survey skills and comfort working outdoors in varying conditions (rural/urban, inclement weather).
* Experience using GIS/field mapping apps (ArcGIS, QGIS or similar) on smartphones/tablets for capturing geodata and attribute information.
* Comfortable reading and interpreting telecoms infrastructure plans (cable routes, ducts, chambers, poles, MDUs), identifying existing vs new plant.
* Demonstrated problem-solving mindset — able to identify obstacles, propose alternatives, escalate as needed to keep design deliverables on track.
* Competent using phone/ tablet to receive work and use digital reporting systems.
* Excellent communication skills — able to present findings clearly (oral and written) to both field and office teams.
* Full clean driver's licence and willingness to travel.
* Health & Safety aware: able to complete site risk assessments, comfortable working near traffic or on site.
* Desirable: prior experience with fibre network build (FTTP/FTTH) or knowledge of existing copper networks; familiarity with way-leave/permission processes.
