Advisory Counsel (Grade III) and Assistant Parliamentary Counsel (Grade II)
Join the Office of Parliamentary Legal Advisers in Dublin as an Advisory Counsel (Grade III) or Assistant Parliamentary Counsel (Grade II). This is an open competition to form panels for these positions.
A career in the Office of Parliamentary Legal Advisers offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the legal foundations of Ireland’s parliamentary democracy. These roles are central to the provision of expert legal advice and legislative drafting services to the Houses of the Oireachtas, their Committees, the Commission, and individual Members.
Responsibilities include:
* Advisory Counsel (Grade III): Provide legal advice on a wide range of public and parliamentary law matters, including constitutional law, parliamentary privilege, procurement, employment law, and more.
* Assistant Parliamentary Counsel (Grade II): Draft Private Members’ Bills and statutory instruments and provide legal drafting support to Members and Committees.
We are looking for qualified barristers or solicitors with at least five years’ post-qualification experience and demonstrated expertise in at least three areas of law, including Irish Constitutional law, Administrative law, Contract law, Employment law, EU law, or Procurement law. Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills are also required, along with a commitment to public service values and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
