About Gorey Care Centre
Gorey Care Centre is a 96-bed centre located in Clonattin, Gorey town, Co. Wexford, opening in April 2025. It will offer a Continuum of Care, providing seamless transitions through levels of clinical care as a person's healthcare needs change.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice:
* Ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing and social care, meeting individual resident needs by adhering to home policies and best clinical standards.
* Work with staff members across all areas to maintain standards, identifying concerns and implementing action plans with the Director of Nursing.
* Review residents with pressure sores, sustained falls, or clinically unwell conditions, ensuring appropriate management plans are in place.
* Troubleshoot ongoing clinical and non-clinical issues, escalating to the Director of Nursing.
* Perform comprehensive assessments of residents and monitor ongoing assessments and modifications.
Medication Management:
* Supervise medication administration and compliance by nursing staff.
* Order monthly stock and compile monthly stock inventory.
* Review medication audits with the Director of Nursing and improve standards.
* Liaise with GPs and pharmacy regarding medication reviews and audits.
Staff Supervision & Training:
* Be a visible presence with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants, promoting a professional yet caring approach to residents.
* Participate in Training & Development/Performance Appraisal for Staff Nurses and Care Assistants in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
* Work with Care Assistants to ensure they provide a high standard of direct care, monitoring their effectiveness in relation to assigned residents.
* Assess training needs with the Director of Nursing, implementing in-house training such as infection control, palliative care, and understanding challenging behaviour.
Auditing:
* Review recent admissions, ensuring proper assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care are documented.
* Monitor standards of cleanliness and hygiene, fostering effective working relationships between Staff Nurses, Care Assistants, and housekeeping staff.
* Conduct environmental and hand hygiene audits regularly, implementing action plans and sustaining them.
* Carry out medication audits, health & safety audits, risk assessments, and draw up risk management plans with the Director of Nursing.
* Audit Epicare and address documentation issues associated with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants (Touch screen).
Residents/Relatives - Person Centred:
* Interact and support residents and families daily, serving as a key point of contact for relatives and visitors, and an ambassador for the home.
* Address complaints promptly at the point of contact.
Management:
* Assist the Director of Nursing with responsibilities, taking on the role when covering for annual leave.
* Manage daily activities, including roster checks, attending handovers, and reviewing resident progress.
* Support and develop clinical practice through a hands-on approach with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants in the delivery of care.
* Implement Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the safety and welfare of staff, residents, and others.
Requirements:
* BSc in General Nursing or equivalent qualification.
* Previous managerial experience is an advantage.
* Registered on the NMBI live register.
* Excellent Leadership, Organisational, and Communication skills.
* Sound decision-making ability.
* Ability to motivate self and others, working on own initiative.
* Ability to work well and promote a team environment.
