The ideal candidate will bring robust mechanical design and project leadership expertise to support and drive energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across a wide range of industrial sectors.As a senior engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development, design, implementation and optimisation of mechanical systems and processes in high-energy-use environments. Your work will directly impact the energy performance of Ireland’s most energy-intensive industries.Key Responsibilities:Project Leadership:Lead the mechanical design and execution of energy-related projects, including HVAC upgrades, compressed air systems, heat recovery, steam systems, refrigeration and process cooling solutions.Engineering Design & Specification:Develop mechanical engineering specifications, technical drawings, and tender documentation for energy and decarbonisation projects.Client Engagement:Collaborate with clients to understand energy goals, define project scopes, and present technical solutions and reports to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.Team Collaboration & Mentorship:Mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional teams in delivering integrated energy solutions.Innovation & Continuous Improvement:Identify new technologies and methods for improving energy efficiency and sustainability in mechanical systems.Core Competencies:Mechanical System DesignAdvanced proficiency in mechanical engineering design, Utilities Design including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles.Project ManagementStrong project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, contractor coordination, and reporting.Energy Efficiency EngineeringDeep understanding of energy systems and industrial utility networks, including chillers, boilers, heat exchangers and air handling systems.Technical DocumentationExpertise in preparing design specifications, detailed reports, and construction documentation.Regulatory & Standards KnowledgeFamiliarity with Irish and EU energy regulations and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, PED).Client-Focused CommunicationStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.Data Analysis & Problem SolvingAnalytical mindset with ability to interpret site data, model energy systems, and generate actionable insights.Leadership & MentoringAbility to mentor junior team members and support knowledge-sharing in a collaborative environment.Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.Minimum of 7+ years of post-graduate experience in mechanical or energy engineering, preferably in industrial or utilities sectors.Chartered Engineer status or eligibility is desirable.Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools; energy modelling software a plus.Full clean driving license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.EM3 is an equal opportunity employer.
