The role
Project Manager (ESB Frameworks and Renewables)
Kildare, just off the N7. Company vehicle. Site travel across Ireland.
Most project manager jobs are a sideways move. This one has a runway built into it.
You'd come in on the ESB framework side, working alongside the associate director who owns those client relationships. He's a few years from retiring. So the plan, the actual plan, is that you learn the framework from him, take on the relationships, and grow into running your own projects.
That's the reason this role exists now rather than next year.
It's an electrical engineering business of around 100 people that does the full turnkey job: design, build and commission, on substation and grid connection projects across Ireland. Big enough to be on the country's significant grid and renewable work. Small enough that you'll have direct access to the founder and the associate directors, with no layers of org chart in between.
You won't be boxed into one type of work either. You'll move between the ESB frameworks and the renewables and special projects side: substations, grid connections, and build-outs for renewable developers and data centre clients.

This is not a desk job. In a business this size, you'll be expected to get into the detail. Some days that's procurement and supplier management. Some days it's untangling a problem on site. Some days it's something nobody saw coming that morning.
If you've spent years as a small cog in a 5,000-person utility, sitting in your lane doing one slice of one process, this is the opposite of that. People who make that move tend to either love it or last a fortnight. Worth being honest with yourself about which you'd be.
What you'd actually be doing
Supporting delivery across the ESB framework projects, with exposure to the renewables side too. Procurement and supplier management on switchgear, transformers and long-lead items. Managing the sub-contracted civil contractors and supporting site managers. Pulling together the weekly project data and client updates, and being the person who keeps things from slipping. And building the client relationships that, over time, become yours to run.
What you'll need
An electrical engineering background (civil considered, but electrical is preferred given the work).
Experience of the Irish power and utilities market. If you've worked with ESB frameworks before, that moves you to the top of the pile.
You're happy on the road. Projects run from Donegal to Kerry depending on what's live.
You want the variety, and you're not precious about wearing a few hats.

Where you'd be based
The office is in Kildare, right off the N7, about 50 minutes from Dublin city centre, and you'd always be driving against the traffic. This is a site-based role, so you'll be out across Ireland as well as in the office. People on the team commute from as far as Donegal and Waterford, so if you're not next door, that's not a dealbreaker for this one.
