Our well-established client is a leading organisation within the transport sector and is currently hiring an experienced
Firewall Architect
to join its central Security Services function. This is a senior, hands-on architecture role with responsibility for defining, governing, and evolving a complex enterprise firewall estate across on-prem and cloud environments.
You will act as the primary firewall authority, shaping strategy, architecture, and standards while working closely with infrastructure, security, and project teams across a highly distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the enterprise firewall architecture, including strategy, roadmaps, and technical standards
* Act as lead architect for a Palo Alto firewall estate, covering HLDs, LLDs, rulesets, and change design
* Provide architectural input across IT projects, ensuring security-by-design principles are embedded
* Define firewall components of incident response and cyber resilience plans
* Act as an escalation point for major security incidents, including out-of-hours support when required
* Provide technical oversight of internal engineers and third-party service providers
* Lead firewall rule reviews, remediation activities, and responses to penetration tests and audits
* Mentor junior engineers and support the wider security function as a subject-matter expert
Experience & Skills
* Proven experience in Firewall Architecture or Senior Network Security Engineering roles
* Strong hands-on expertise with Palo Alto firewalls in large enterprise environments
* Experience designing firewall solutions in hybrid cloud environments (Azure)
* Strong understanding of security operations, incident response, and governance
* Comfortable working in regulated, business-critical environments
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications
* Degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related discipline
* Palo Alto certifications strongly preferred
* Broader security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) are advantageous
* Experience working with managed service providers and external vendors
