About the Role:
The Head of Performance & Exposure Management (HOPEM) plays a critical leadership role in delivering optimal underwriting portfolio performance through best-in-class portfolio analysis, pricing strategy and exposure management. Reporting to the Director of Underwriting, you will be a key member of the Underwriting Management Team, accountable for driving underwriting profitability and Gross Written Premium targets in line with the business plan. The role combines strategic influence with hands-on oversight, ensuring robust exposure management, high-quality data and insight, strong governance, and innovative pricing and product propositions that support sustainable growth.
Fitness & Probity and Conduct Standards
IPB Insurance is a financial institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As such, this role is regulated and subject to the Fitness and Probity Standards as set out by the Central Bank. These standards require that individuals performing Controlled Functions (CFs) are competent, capable, honest, ethical, and act with integrity. In addition, the role is subject to the Conduct Standards introduced under the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023, which apply throughout the course of employment. Accordingly, this role will be subject to enhanced pre-employment screening procedures, and there will be an ongoing requirement for the role holder to maintain both fit and proper status and adherence to the Conduct Standards throughout their employment.
To be successful in the role you will be accountable for:
* Leading and developing a high-performing Portfolio Management team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
* Driving portfolio performance through ongoing monitoring, analysis and optimisation of pricing adequacy and underwriting results.
* Managing underwriting risk exposure, including accumulation and catastrophe risk, within approved risk appetite limits.
* Collaborating with Actuarial to ensure capital, modelling and pricing implications are fully considered in underwriting decisions.
* Overseeing exposure management frameworks and validating catastrophe and accumulation modelling outputs.
* Ensuring the adequacy of reinsurance arrangements through close partnership with the Head of Reinsurance and Director of Underwriting.
* Owning underwriting data integrity and accountability for the production of accurate, timely and insightful MI and reporting.
* Ensuring strong governance, regulatory compliance and underwriting integrity across systems, processes and change initiatives.
* Enabling best-in-class underwriting, product and pricing propositions across all lines of business.
* Embedding robust assessment of historic, emerging and evolving underwriting risks within product development and review processes.
* Supporting ESG ambitions through innovative product and pricing solutions.
* Contributing to underwriting strategy, governance forums and senior decision-making as a member of the Underwriting Management Team.
* Influencing underwriting appetite, portfolio mix and growth priorities through data-led insight and analysis.
* Championing continuous improvement and innovation in pricing tools, analytical capability and performance reporting.
What we're looking for:
* Relevant Professional Qualification (e.g. ACII, FCII, FIA, FSAI) desirable or actively progressing towards.
* A proven senior-level track record within Commercial Insurance.
* Strong technical expertise in pricing, portfolio management and exposure management.
* Advanced analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex data, statistics, modelling and pricing methodologies.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, including engagement with Executive leadership and Boards.
* A sound understanding of reinsurance structures and their strategic application.
* Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment and its impact on underwriting operations.
* Demonstrated experience in leading and developing high-performing technical teams.
