Assistant Psychologist

(1.0 WTE Full time, 1-year Fixed Term contracts)

St Patrick's Mental Health Services is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment as fixed term, Assistant Psychologists from July 13th, 2026, to assist in the running of group psychological therapy programmes and a variety of research roles.

The successful applicants must meet the following requirements:

* Eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland
* Have completed a Master's degree in Psychology or about to complete a Master's degree in Psychology in 2026
* Excellent communications skills

These additional criteria are highly desirable:

* Previous experience working with clinical populations
* Previous research experience
* Previous experience with group psychological therapy programmes

It is anticipated that interviews for those shortlisted will be held on Tuesday, 12th May 2026. Interviews will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Please note, successful candidates will be required to be fully available on site in St Patrick's University Hospital, Dublin, for an initial handover period during which time no leave will be permitted. This handover period will run from July 13th to July 24th, 2025.

The role

Assistant Psychologist

1.0WTE Full Time, 1-year Fixed Term contract

The main function of the Assistant Psychologist is to assist a team of clinical and counselling psychologists with the administration, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a range of group psychological therapy programmes.

The Assistant Psychologist will report to the Director of Psychology.

The standard working week applying to the post is 35 hours per week.

Location

This role requires the successful candidate to come onsite to St Patrick's University Hospital in Dublin 8.

Responsibilities

The duties of the Assistant Psychologist under the supervision of a clinical/counselling psychologist are outlined below. In carrying out all duties, the Assistant Psychologist should ensure that all hospital policies, Health & Safety procedures, and legislative requirements are met at all times.

Co-ordination and some co-facilitation of a variety of group psychological therapy programmes and the opportunity to work with adult, adolescent, and older adult service users.

* Collection and analysis of outcome data across the hospital.
* Assisting in the preparation and delivery of the group psychological therapy programmes.
* Providing administrative support for the aforementioned programmes.
* Become familiar with relevant background literature and theory.
* Liaise with other staff from a range of disciplines in relation to the aforementioned programmes.
* Conduct orientation sessions for potential group participants.
* Conduct pre- and post-intervention psychometric assessments, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients referred to the aforementioned programmes.
* Maintain collaborative working relationships with the Psychology Department, providing regular feedback from relevant programmes as needed.
* As required undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries in relation to the aforementioned programmes.
* Participate in research projects as needed.
* Attend regular individual and team supervision.
* There are opportunities to work on site and remotely, depending on service needs.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

* Eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland
* Have completed a Master's degree in Psychology or about to complete a Master's degree in Psychology in 2026

Highly desirable:

* Previous experience working with clinical populations
* Previous research experience in psychology
Previous experience facilitating psychological therapy groups

Skills, competencies, and knowledge:

* Enthusiastic

* Strong administration skills
* An ability to work both independently and under supervision
* Excellent communication skills

Terms and Conditions

Tenure: 1.0WTE Full time, 1-Year Fixed term contract, pensionable as below.

Working Week: The standard hours applying to this position is 35 hours per week.

Salary: The salary for the position is €38,719 per annum.

Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position is 23 days.

Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme upon commencement of employment. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.

Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder's performance will be subject to ongoing review.

Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions

Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character: The appointee must be of good character.

Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
