The role of the Toolroom Manager involves overseeing a team responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining injection mould tools, jigs, fixtures, and automation components. The position is crucial in minimizing downtime, enhancing tooling reliability, and driving continuous improvement across the production floor.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day operations including preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, breakdown repairs, and new tooling projects.
* Operate and supervise work using CNC machines (EDM, Wire Eroder, CNC mill/lathe) and manual machinery (grinders, lathes, drills, welders).
* Ensure tooling meets required quality standards.
* Provide technical support to production and engineering departments.
* Mentor apprentices and junior team members, promoting skills development.
* Maintain tooling records and participate in project launches and trials.
* Implement safety standards and 5 S practices to maintain a clean, efficient work environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Proven experience in toolmaking, ideally within an injection moulding environment.
* Strong CNC and manual machining skills.
* Experience with hot and cold runner systems and precision assemblies.
* Familiarity with heat treatment and tooling finishing processes.
* Leadership experience or ability to lead a team.
* Decision-making skills with the ability to work under pressure.
* Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills.
* Organizational skills with self-motivation and proactivity.
* Commitment to delivering high standards and continuous improvement.
* Adaptability with strong time management skills.
* Completed Toolmaking or Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
* Valid FLT license or willingness to obtain one.
* Exposure to lean manufacturing or 5 S environments.
