We are looking for a Finance Operations Manager to join our premium processing team, with a strong focus on data, insight, and process optimisation.
We are looking for someone who can lead the team, drive data-led decision making, and is prepared to get hands-on with analysis and problem solving when required.
What is the department responsible for?
As a unique selling point, Cornmarket offers a salary deduction service as part of its product offering.
In simple terms we tell public sector payrolls what to deduct from our clients salaries, they remit the premium to Cornmarket, and we then use data-driven controls to reconcile, validate, and allocate these funds before remitting the premium to the insurers.
The accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the underlying data flows are critical to this process.
This role is a managerial position in the Finance Department, with significant responsibility for the integrity and efficiency of premium and payroll data.
The role requires a person who is equally adept with operational processes and data analysis, has excellent attention to detail, and can use data to prioritise workloads, identify issues, and meet tight deadlines.
Additionally, the individual will have excellent communication skills and will always keep regulatory requirements, data quality, and client perception in mind.
A key part of this role is liaising with other client facing and operational departments to ensure that insurance premium data is captured, processed, and reconciled efficiently, and that any data anomalies are swiftly investigated and resolved.
The successful candidate will help to design and refine data controls, reporting, and MI to ensure the end-to-end processing journey is transparent, well-governed, and a positive experience for the end client.
What this Job is expected to Do (Accountabilities) Operations Own the salary deduction facility process across 270 employer payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely creation, validation, and submission of payroll data files within required deadlines, with robust checks on data completeness and accuracy.
Work with large, complex data sets to produce, reconcile, and quality-check payroll submission and premium allocation files, proactively identifying and resolving data quality issues.
Design, document, and continuously refine end-to-end, data-driven processes within finance operations, ensuring they are efficient, controlled, scalable, and underpinned by strong data controls.
Perform scheme reviews using quantitative data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, data errors, and operational risks, and implement data-led corrective and preventative actions.
Lead the operational and analytical aspects of new scheme and new customer onboarding, including data and reporting requirements, data migration/validation, and a smooth transition into BAU.
Act as a key point of contact for error resolution with public sector payroll stakeholders, using data investigation and root-cause analysis to resolve issues and implement enduring data fixes.
Implement, maintain, and enhance operational and management information reporting (including KPIs, KRIs, and dashboards) to monitor data quality, process performance, risk, and customer impact.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant data governance standards, risk controls, internal policies, and regulatory requirements applicable to the role, with clear evidence and audit trails.
People Lead and develop a team within the finance operations department, setting clear objectives aligned with company and departmental priorities.
Provide ongoing coaching and training, building breadth of capability within the team and reducing single points of failure and key dependency risks.
Actively listen to team members, address concerns, and escalate issues appropriately where required.
Manage and deepen relationships with internal and external stakeholders on both a regular and ad hoc basis, acting as their trusted partner.
Build strong, collaborative working relationships with other departments to maintain a "One Cornmarket" approach and ensure end-to-end customer and scheme journeys are well supported.
The level of Knowledge / Skills / Experience (Technical Competency) required for the role Degree in a relevant field desirable but not essential.
3–5 years' experience in financial services, ideally in financial operations, payroll operations, or a business analyst role within a similar environment.
Demonstrable experience working with data sets (e.g. payroll data, transactional files), including data validation, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis.
Strong analytical, reporting, and numeracy skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate it into clear actions and recommendations.
Proven ability to understand, document, and improve end-to-end processes, including process mapping and control design.
Ability to set deadlines, take ownership of deliverables, and manage competing priorities effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain data and complex processes to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience managing and leading a team, including objective setting, performance management, and skills development.
Knowledge of the current regulatory framework (e.g. CPC) and an understanding of how it impacts operational and data processes.
Strong customer focus, with an emphasis on error prevention, swift error resolution, and minimising customer impact.
Ability to work on own initiative while collaborating effectively with other departments and stakeholders.
Strong prioritisation skills and an understanding of when and how to escalate issues.
