Role: Java technical Delivery Lead Location: Dublin (2-3days/week On-Site)Job Type: Contract Role Overview We are seeking a seasoned Lead - Technology Delivery with deep expertise in Java development, integration with mainframe-based applications, and strong exposure to core banking platforms.
The ideal leader will bring a combination of on-the-ground technical depth, strategic planning capability, and excellent communication skills.
This role requires strong leadership across a multi-vendor environment, robust budget and cost management skills, and the ability to influence senior management and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Technology Leadership
• Lead technology delivery for Java-based applications and services that integrate with mainframe systems in a core banking environment.
• Provide architectural oversight and guide teams on best practices for Java, microservices, APIs, integration patterns, and legacy modernization.
• Drive continuous improvements in performance, scalability, security, and operational stability of banking platforms.
Team & Delivery Management
• Lead and mentor a 40+ member engineering team, including managers, leads, developers, and QA engineers.
• Ensure high-quality delivery of complex projects, enhancements, and production support initiatives.
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and engineering excellence.
Core Banking & Integration
• Oversee design and development of solutions for core banking modules, ensuring compliance with banking standards, SLAs, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage seamless integration between digital channels, Java applications, and mainframe-based core systems.
• Work closely with enterprise architects and product owners to align technology deliverables with banking priorities.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
• Manage multi-vendor teams, ensuring alignment with contractual commitments, SLAs, and performance metrics.
• Build strong relationships with senior business leaders, operations teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Communicate strategy, progress, and risks effectively to senior management and executive leadership.
Budget, Cost & Operational Management
• Oversee annual technology budgets, forecasts, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Ensure effective vendor billing, financial governance, and compliance with internal controls.
• Drive operational excellence through automation, Dev Ops practices, and process improvements.
Strategic Planning
• Develop long-term roadmaps for modernization, API-led integration, and platform transformation initiatives.
• Identify emerging technologies that can enhance banking services, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
• Translate business strategies into actionable technology objectives and implementation plans.
Required Skills & Experience
• 20+ years of overall IT experience with strong hands-on and leadership experience in:o Java, J2 EE, Spring, Microserviceso Integration between distributed applications and mainframe (COBOL, JCL, DB2) systemso Core banking systems and processes
• Proven experience leading large teams (40+ people) in complex delivery environments.
• Strong background in multi-vendor management, governance, and performance oversight.
• Robust experience in budget planning, cost optimization, and financial management.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to influence senior management.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to plan long-term technology initiatives while staying hands-on as needed.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with experience delivering large-scale transformation programs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in large banking/financial institutions.
• Certifications in Agile/SAFe, PMP, or cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
• Experience in modernization of legacy banking applications.
• Exposure to API gateways, ESB, and integration middleware.
