Role Purpose
As Planning Manager you will coordinate the development of multiple project plans of varying levels of complexity while simultaneously monitoring the status and performance of live projects, ensuring that in house Process and Procedures are adhered to and contributing towards improvement of same, the Planning Manager must endeavour to influence a favourable outcome to Kirby at all stages of The Project and must escalate and flag internally to the Senior Planning Manager immediately where there is risk to Kirby.
Key Functions of the Planning Manager
Develop Schedules and Histograms as required by the Bid Manager for all bids in the region
Sign-off and approve Schedules and Histograms produced by individual Planners
Resolve extraordinary planning related issues that arise on live projects that cannot be dealt with by the project planner
Review progress reports and dashboards on all projects weekly
Issue Regional report to the Planning Manager weekly
Mentor the planners to ensure they develop and expand their knowledge
Audit each live project Planning is supporting to ensure compliance with Planning Process
Planning Manager Responsibilities
In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project as follows:
Business Unit Support
Point of contact for the Business Unit Operations Manager for all Planning related issues – Must escalate to Senior Planning Manager if issues cannot be addressed
Manage the Development of Schedules and Histograms as required by the Pre-Construction Team for all bids in the region
Audit each live project the Planning Dept. is supporting to ensure compliance with Planning Process
Provide on the job mentoring to the Planners to ensure they develop and expand their knowledge
Programme Co-ordination (Planning Phase of Project Life Cycle)
Must ensure that the Planning process is initiated on each new project
Must ensure that Planners within team attend the Handover Meeting prepared
Must ensure that the hours received from the QS encompass the totality of project scope and are the validated contracted hours
Co-ordinate the development of Plans and Planning Collateral for all relevant projects
Sign-off and approve Schedules and Histograms produced by individual Planners
Ensure that a formal presentation of the Plan is completed on each project
Resolve extraordinary planning related issues that arise on live projects that cannot be dealt with by the Project Planner
Status and Performance Management (Controlling Phase of Project Life Cycle)
Ensure that projects are being tracked in consistent manner (in accordance with Planning Procedure and Process)
Ensure that the project is being tracked, reported on and reforecast accurately and that the Planning Section of the Project Dashboards is updatedReview progress reports and dashboards on relevant projects weekly
Issue Regional report to the Senior Planning Manager
Provide clear communication of early warnings to the Senior Planning Manager
Timely Escalation of risk items to Senior Planning Manager
Advise project teams on ways to improve performance
Support Planner in the Schedule development and management
General
Look for new opportunities to improve service to 'Internal Customers'
Perform activities from Planner Roles and Responsibility as and when required
Necessary requirements of the Planning Manager
3rd level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Quantity Surveying or strong trades background coupled with technical ability may be considered
5+ years' experience / demonstrate ability to develop and implement plans, monitor and control work
Must be capable of producing project plans from design and commercial informationMust be capable of mentoring & supervising intermediate and junior personnel
Must be capable of coordinating the development of multiple project plans
Microsoft Project / P6 or Equivalent Planning Software, Microsoft Office tools – Excellent report writing skills
Time management essential to satisfy demands of busy schedule
