The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating a press brake to bend and form metal components to precise specifications.
The role requires strong technical ability, accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards within a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
Operate CNC or manual press brake machines to bend, form, and shape metal sheets and components.
Tooling installation and changeover
Machine calibration and adjustments
Setting backstops and bend allowances
Interpret engineering drawings, sheet-metal flat patterns, and bend sequence plans.
Fabrication Tasks
Measure and inspect materials before and after forming to ensure compliance with tolerances.
Perform test bends and verify accuracy before starting production runs.
Maintain correct bend sequences to prevent material deformation or machine collision.
Handle materials safely, including loading and unloading sheets.
Quality Control
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using calipers, protractors, gauges, and other measurement tools.
Document quality checks where required.
Identify defects or deviations and alert supervisors promptly.
Maintenance & Efficiency
Perform routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance.
Report machine malfunctions or tooling wear.
Work with the production team to meet daily targets and improve processes.
Health & Safety
Follow all company safety procedures, including PPE requirements.
Ensure safe operation of the press brake and other workshop equipment.
Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work area.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a Press Brake Operator or similar role in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Strong ability to read technical drawings and fabrication sketches.
Competent in using measurement tools and working to tight tolerances.
Understanding of metal types, bend allowances, and forming processes.
