This is a remote role in Ireland, with occasional office attendance in Dublin several times a year, and the possibility of European travel to support specific projects and on-prem installations/upgrades.About the RoleMy end-user customer has a new career opportunity for a Linux Administrator, sitting within their globally distributed Cloud Storage and Data Centre team. This role has come about due to promotion within the team.As a Linux Administrator, you will work across Cloud, Storage & Data Centre Engineer, specialising in managing Data Centres, Cloud Environments, Enterprise SAN Storage, Hypervisors, Linux servers, BCDR Testing, Data Protection and Data Recovery. You will be instrumental in maintaining the stability, uptime, security, and optimal performance of critical Linux Systems. Your ability to collaborate with colleagues in the team and other IT departments will contribute significantly to the success of IT projects and the overall efficiency of the Company’s Core Platforms.You will ensure all support requests you work on are logged in the ServiceDesk system. Monitor the ServiceDesk support queue for your function, ensuring all requests are managed within the IT Support SLA.An ideal candidate will have extensive Linux knowledge and experience, including but not limited to admin, patching, setup and building new Linux VMs. The next 12-18 months include significant data centre migrations; any experience in DC migrations would be highly advantageous.You would be required to provide exceptional customer service and support to internal/external stakeholders and end-users, professionally and promptly addressing their inquiries and concerns.As a Linux Administrator you will join a team of Linux SAs to work as part of the Data Centre, Storage and Cloud team and ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability of the managed Linux systems. In this role you’ll implement industry best practices for Linux System administration, encompassing resource management, capacity planning, data protection, system tuning, systems builds/migrations and disaster recovery provision and testing.Location: Remote, but based out of their Dublin office, with some occasional travel around Europe. This is an Ireland-based role, so you will require the right to live and work in Ireland.Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, potential for a 1 in 5 on-call rota. Some weekend maintenance work will be required, with time off in lieu during the week.Role and ResponsibilitiesSupport Data Centre, Storage and Cloud infrastructureInstall, configure and manage Linux servers and software as required, using automation where possibleConfigure and manage Data Protection platforms including Dell Networker, Commvault and ZertoWork closely with DBA, Network, Application, Systems and Service Desk teams on projects, migrations, upgrades, refreshes, architecture and other activitiesCarry out regular Disaster Recovery (DR) testing on key systems, including coordinating the resources to carry out the tests, proving out RPO, RTO and ensuring DR procedures are up to dateEnsure systems maintenance, support, installations, upgrades, performance monitoring, capacity planning and storage administration is carried out with minimum disruption to the operation teamsAssess current and projected system performance then recommend and perform changes and enhancementsEnsure maximum availability of Data Centre and Cloud systems and minimum disruption due to change - planned or otherwiseMaintain documentation and diagrams to describe all systems, networks and communicationsMaintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in Linux, Data Centre, Cloud and related technologyEvaluate and recommend new infrastructure technologies, both on-prem and in the CloudWhat you will bringQUALIFICATIONS3-5 years’ enterprise-scale Linux System Administration expertise, combined with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a combination of equivalent professional experienceEXPERIENCE & SKILLSIn-depth experience of RedHat Enterprise, or Oracle Linux Operating System or similar Linux based OSStrong experience working with Data Protection Software such as Dell Networker, Commvault, ZertoExperience working in environments that include Red Hat Linux, Azure and other cloud technologiesStrong technical background with proven analytical and problem-solving skillsKnowledge and experience of working with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Grafana, Grey logExperience working with Hypervisors, including VMware and Oracle Linux VMWorking knowledge of Ansible, Kickstart installation process, Shell scripting and other Open Source software that supports the Linux OSKnowledge of SAN Storage Systems, Fiber Channel Switches, San ZoningData Centre and Cloud-based technology experienceExperience following change management, change control processes and problem managementHighly organised and able to work to a deadline. Requires the ability to manage multiple project requests at the same time and engage team members on a technical level, while effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical peopleDemonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and manage risk for critical business systemsAbility to write, present and explain complex concepts to non-technical people with a clear, transparent and open approach to communicating your ideasDemonstrated ability to provide timely technical support for internal and external stakeholders and customersStrong documentation skills and experience in establishing processes and procedures while developing process improvementsYou must be able to live and work in Ireland.
