About Chronic Pain Ireland
Chronic Pain Ireland (CPI) is the national charity providing information, education, and support to people living with chronic pain, their families, caregivers, and stakeholders. We advocate on their behalf and collaborate with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to improve the lives of those affected.

The Role
CPI is recruiting a trustee with significant experience in advocacy and lobbying to guide our strategic efforts in influencing policy and amplifying the voices of those we represent. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in public affairs, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and lobbying. Familiarity with the healthcare or voluntary sector is highly desirable.
We are seeking an experienced individual to help strengthen CPI’s role as a trusted advocate for those living with chronic pain. You will play a pivotal role in shaping CPI’s advocacy strategy, influencing public policy, and building relationships with policymakers and key influencers.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of CPI’s advocacy and lobbying strategy.
* Collaborate with the Board and CEO to advance our policy priorities and strategic goals.
* Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislators, and healthcare stakeholders to influence positive change.
* Provide expertise and guidance on public affairs campaigns and stakeholder engagement.
* Monitor legislative and policy developments to identify opportunities for impact.
* Represent CPI in public forums, stakeholder meetings, and consultations to ensure the voice of those living with chronic pain is heard.
Board Member Commitments
* Have a working knowledge of the voluntary sector in Ireland and an understanding of corporate governance requirements, including the Charities Act 2009, Charities Governance Code, and GDPR.
* Actively participate in Board meetings (7 annually, held online) and a Committee (5–6 meetings per year).
* Uphold CPI’s mission and values, ensuring the charity operates in the best interest of its stakeholders.
* Become a Director of the Company and contribute to the organisation’s strategic and governance objectives.
Commitment
* Approx. 6 hours per month for Board and subcommittee meetings.
* Meetings are held online, allowing participation from anywhere in Ireland.
* Occasional attendance at the AGM or strategic planning sessions.
* Board term: 3 years, renewable once.
