Wells House and Gardens are recruiting for a Head Gardener to join their our team. We are an Multi award-winning tourism attraction located in North Wexford on a 450-acre estate. The house and gardens were designed by the renowned architect Daniel Robertson. Our estate spans acres of meticulously landscaped grounds, woodland walks and a walled garden.
Responsibilities:
Garden Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the gardens, including planting, pruning, watering, weeding, and overall maintenance of the estate grounds, Communication with Management Team including meetings.
Design and Planning: Develop and implement creative garden designs and planting schemes in line with our historical context and aesthetic. Collaborate with estate management to plan seasonal displays, assist in the preparation of our events and develop long-term development projects.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor our team of gardeners, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure tasks are carried out efficiently and to the highest standards.
Plant Care: Knowledgeably care for a wide variety of plant species, ensuring proper cultivation, propagation, and pest/disease control measures are implemented.
Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implementation of appropriate measures to maintain a safe working environment for staff and visitors.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Head Gardener or Assistant Head Gardener.
Expert knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care, and garden maintenance techniques.
Creative flair with a strong eye for design and aesthetics.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
Strong project management abilities, capable of planning and executing garden projects within specified timelines and budgets.
Sound understanding of health and safety regulations on garden operations.
Willingness to participate in the delivery of garden tours and assist in the development of Wells House & Gardens as a top tourist attraction in Ireland's Ancient East.
