Post **** - Medical Scientist Dublin(NBC) Post **** Medical Scientist Virology Laboratory Department Full Time Temporary National Blood Centre The IBTS is currently recruiting a full-time, temporary Medical Scientist based in the Virology Laboratory Department, National Blood Centre.
The National Donor Screening Laboratory (comprising of the Virology laboratory, the Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) testing laboratory and the Automated Donor Grouping laboratory (ADG), plays an integral part in ensuring the quality of the blood and blood products issued to patients in Irish hospitals.
The Laboratory scientist will be based in the Virology laboratory.
The MS will facilitate the screening of donor samples to meet strict deadlines to ensure a safe and efficient blood supply.
They will also participate in the future development of the NDSL and the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and test systems.
The IBTS is fully committed to on-going learning and research as well as professional and personal development.
Essential Criteria: Education: Candidates must have a relevant recognised primary degree in the field of Medical and must have, or be eligible for, full Membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) and registered with CORU.
Experience: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to work in a team environment.
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to deduce and make rational decisions.
The appointee must demonstrate knowledge and experience working in a GMP/GLP environment.
Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate.
Desirable Criteria: Experience working in the area of Virology, Molecular mircobiology.
Experience working in a testing laboratory using high throughput automates.
Demonstrated computer skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
The salary scale attached to the post is the Medical Scientist scale €44,331 to €73,667 (incl. LSI) pro rata per annum.
Entry point onto the salary scale is dependent upon relevant experience.
