Key Responsibilities
Design electrical services installations for buildings in the Educational, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial & Retail sectors, including electrical distribution, small power, containment, control systems, internal lighting, external lighting, emergency lighting, MV & LV electrical design, emergency lighting systems, fire alarm systems, IT infrastructure, CCTV and intruder alarms to current regulations and design standards.
Demonstrate strong technical ability in all aspects of electrical/building services engineering & design.
Create detailed electrical design layouts, schematics, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project goals.
Independently address design and technical challenges within projects to achieve the best engineering solutions.
Work directly with clients and project engineers to define project requirements and develop and design technical solutions.
Develop and agree on design processes and design deliverables.
Produce accurate budget estimates for projects, assess contractor progress claims & variations.
Maintain project documentation in accordance with ISO standards, ensuring up‑to‑date records for electrical designs.
Engage in QA audits, peer reviews and technical workshops, promoting continuous improvement in electrical solutions.
Stay informed on building services and environmental sustainability design trends by attending relevant seminars, CPDs and exhibitions.
Conduct site inspections and prepare reports related to electrical systems, sourcing budget information and providing data to project teams.
Review electrical service submittals, ensuring compliance with project objectives and approved designs.
Monitor project timelines to ensure electrical designs are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Lead projects from a design perspective, including answering technical queries, design development, services coordination, review of technical submittals, managing and coordinating timely delivery of design changes and drawing updates during the project.
Lead and mentor Junior and Intermediate engineers where relevant, depending on experience.
Assist with tender bids, including technical writing reports and preparing budget estimates.
Report to Associate Director / Director on the performance of projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Level 7 Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
Ideally 5+ years of experience in design with an engineering consultancy.
Proven experience in electrical engineering design in a design office.
Ability to lead and deliver projects in accordance with Building Regulations and Design Standards.
Ability to work within a team, and independently when required.
Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the overall success of projects.
Demonstrated experience in a client‑facing role.
Strong communication and presenting skills.

Proven knowledge of electrical system designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security and protective systems in accordance with Irish Regulations.
Experience working within ISO standards and project‑specific scopes.
Proficient in design software such as Dialux/Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, BIM / Revit, or similar platforms.
Proficient and competent in Microsoft Office packages.
Proficient knowledge and experience of current Design Guides, Building Regulations (including BCAR process) and EN Standards.
Required Licences & Eligibility
Full Clean European Driver's Licence (or in the process of obtaining one).

If you are a non‑EU/EEA national, you will need valid permission to work and reside in the Republic of Ireland.
