PositionTherapy Assistant (SLT) – St. Joseph’s Foundation – Fermoy, County Cork, IrelandLocationFermoy Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT)Job SummaryWork as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the supervision of a Speech & Language Therapist, providing assistance with the provision of speech and language therapy services to children in Early Intervention and School Age services on a Children’s Disability Network Team.Key ResponsibilitiesFollow established standard operating procedures, policies, protocols and guidelines, including those related to quality and safety management systems.Plan, organise and maintain Speech and Language Therapy programmes under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist.Execute therapeutic plans and programmes as determined and delegated by the Speech and Language Therapist.Collaborate with children, families, carers, education staff and other team members in intervention planning and support under supervision.Deliver generic programmes and groups for service users according to agreed specifications.Prepare resources for assessment and intervention for clinic appointments, home/school visits and group sessions.Record intervention observations and outcomes, and report to the Speech and Language Therapist.Maintain clinical notes and administrative records in accordance with local protocols.Carry out administrative and clerical duties, including scheduling appointments and organising equipment and materials.Attend and actively participate in meetings, reviews, committees and supervision sessions.Maintain confidentiality of service user information and adhere to consent, confidentiality, ethics and legislation.Support the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems where applicable.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum FETAC Level 5 in Speech & Language Therapy Assistant qualification, or equivalent therapy assistant qualification in a relevant healthcare discipline, Health Care Assistant, or Special Needs Assistant (SNA).Experience working with children with disabilities is essential.Experience and/or knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems is desirable.Completion of HSE Children’s First training is mandatory.Required SkillsExcellent interpersonal and IT skills.Excellent oral, verbal and written English communication skills.Strong organisational and time‑management skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.Confidence in using confidentiality and data‑protection procedures.Personal QualitiesAdaptability and flexibility when providing support across service areas.Commitment to maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development.Awareness of health and safety, HSE and HIQA standards, and ability to report incidents accurately.
