Senior Occupational Therapist - Approved Mental Health Centre
We are seeking applications from Occupational Therapists to join an expanding Occupational Therapy team within Nua Healthcare. The Occupational Therapist will work with adults in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit based in North Cork, alongside a diverse multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities (Clinical)
* Manage a caseload, conduct assessments, implement evidence-based interventions and evaluate treatment programmes for individuals with complex mental health difficulties residing in an approved centre. Include self-care, productive and leisure occupations in OT assessments and interventions.
* Engage in interdisciplinary work with the clinical team (e.g., Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, Social Care Workers) to meet person-centred needs.
* Develop and facilitate individual and group therapy programmes based on identified occupational performance difficulties.
* Promote recovery-oriented OT practice in interactions with individuals, staff and other stakeholders.
* Contribute to compliance with the Judgement Support Framework.
* Contribute to individual care planning, risk assessment and risk management.
* Complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders and ensure quality documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and reports in line with policy and professional standards.
* Provide support to key stakeholders for carry-over of OT recommendations.
* Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical department meetings and OT department meetings.
* Direct and supervise OT students and OT associates; deputise for the OT Manager as required.
* Attend and work the days and hours assigned; demonstrate professional conduct adhering to legal, ethical and professional practice standards.
* Maintain files and records on service users in accordance with the records policy.
Education & Training
* Complete mandatory trainings assigned through Nua Healthcare's Learning Management System.
* Attend internal/external conferences/courses relevant to practice.
* Participate in and follow up on actions from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
Quality Improvement
* Participate in annual Occupational Therapy Department Strategic Planning and support quality improvement goals.
* Share knowledge and best practice within the OT Department, Approved Centre and wider Nua Healthcare Service.
* Promote the Nua Healthcare OT Department at local and national levels.
* Present at conferences/courses relevant to practice and contribute to research.
Health & Safety
* Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
* Adhere to policies, procedures and safe professional practice by complying with legislation, regulations and standards.
* Participate in risk management, identify risks and take appropriate action.
* Report incidents/accidents/near misses per policy.
* Have knowledge of HIQA and Mental Health Commission Standards as they apply to the role.
Qualification & Knowledge
* Hold a Degree/Masters in Occupational Therapy from a university with a programme accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
* Be registered with CORU or provide proof of pending registration at application stage.
* Knowledge of individual care planning, risk assessment, sensory processing difficulties, and the Judgement Support Framework.
Experience & Skills
* At least three years post-qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist in a mental health setting with a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience running therapeutic services and programs including occupation-based and psycho-educational groups.
* Experience implementing sensory integration approaches with a recognised sensory integration course completed.
* Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
* Strong leadership, excellent communication and teamwork, and good time management for a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
