Role Summary The Technical Architect will play a central role in designing the next generation of technology solutions for an organisation undergoing major digital and IT transformation. This role ensures that system designs, cloud platforms, integrations, and applications are scalable, secure, and aligned to business objectives within a transport-sector environment. The successful candidate will define technical patterns, provide engineering leadership, guide delivery teams, and support the modernisation of legacy platforms into cloud-native and container-based architectures. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Solution Design Develop end-to-end technical architectures across applications, integrations, networks, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure). Produce architecture diagrams, patterns, and technical blueprints to support transformation initiatives. Evaluate solution options and recommend designs that balance performance, scalability, cost, and security. Lead technical design reviews and ensure designs adhere to architecture principles and standards. Cloud & Platform Modernisation Guide cloud adoption and migration activities, including re-platforming, containerisation (Kubernetes), serverless, and modern CI/CD practices. Define cloud reference architectures and ensure workloads follow best practices for identity, networking, and deployment. Technical Leadership Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, data, and product teams to ensure seamless delivery of complex solutions. Provide direction to development teams on design patterns, APIs, integration models, and technical constraints. Act as a subject-matter expert for high-impact technology decisions and platform choices. Integration & Data Architecture Oversee the design of API gateways, integration patterns, and data flows across enterprise and transport systems. Support the modernisation of legacy services and integration of new digital capabilities. Governance, Assurance & Standards Develop and maintain technical standards, guidelines, and architecture governance processes. Ensure alignment to enterprise standards, industry best practices, and relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR). Contribute to architectural reviews, risk assessments, and technical assurance activities. Stakeholder Engagement Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and business stakeholders. Participate in vendor assessments, solution evaluations, and technology selection. Required Skills & Experience Technical Background Proven experience as a Technical Architect, Solution Architect, or Senior Engineering Lead. Strong background in cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure). Experience with modern application architectures (microservices, containers, APIs, event-driven systems). Solid understanding of networking, infrastructure, IAM, and enterprise integration patterns. Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation or legacy modernisation programmes. Professional Capabilities Ability to lead architectural decisions across multiple domains and teams. Skilled in documentation, modelling, and presenting architectural recommendations. Comfortable balancing business constraints, technical requirements, and risk. Strong communication skills with experience presenting to technical and business audiences. Desirable Skills Experience in sectors with complex operational environments (e.g., transport, logistics, manufacturing). Exposure to OT/edge technologies, IoT, telematics, fleet systems, or scheduling platforms. Understanding of security principles and regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR). Familiarity with GRC or audit support from a technical perspective. Background in software engineering (e.g., earlier career as developer/engineer). Education & Certifications Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar. Relevant certifications (preferred but not required): AWS or Azure Architect TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture training Kubernetes certification (CKA/CKAD) helpful Benefits: Work From Home
