Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
The National Violence Reduction Unit (NVRU) within the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise, Co. Laois, requires a Locum Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
This is a co-led unit jointly managed by an Assistant Governor and a Senior Psychologist. The NVRU provides a psychologically informed service to individuals experiencing high levels of psychological distress and violence.
Key features include a significantly enhanced Psychology Service role, a physically secure environment, staff selection and training, and provision of reflective space for the team. Psychological assessment and intervention are also provided to clients.
The appointed Grade II Psychologist will support the ongoing development and running of the NVRU. They will deliver bespoke, multi-modal evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in each individual's Care and Management Plan.
The Psychologist will provide specialist contributions to the multi-disciplinary Care and Management Plans and supervise operational staff. They will also support the development of a culture that promotes a joint operational/psychological approach.
The Senior Psychologist provides supervision, support, and line management. Administrative facilities, consulting rooms, and computer resources are available.
Mentalisation Based Therapy approaches are a key feature of the Unit. The Psychologist will have opportunities for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and to engage in assessment and intervention in separate areas of the prison estate.
Essential qualifications and competencies:
* Graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS)
* A postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI
Desirable requirements:
* Experience addressing emotional, mental health, and offence-related difficulties with a forensic population
* Experience working with people who have experienced trauma and personality difficulties
* Providing consultation, education, guidance, and support to multidisciplinary colleagues
* Further therapeutic or research qualifications
