An opportunity has arisen in our Laboratory department for a Senior Pathology Technician Histology.
This is a full time, permanent contract.
Purpose of the Post
Perform routine work to the highest professional standards in the histopathology laboratory, as determined by the Group Laboratory Manager, Senior Laboratory Staff and Consultants, limited to:
* Specimen transfer
* Embedding tissue
* Microtomy
* Special stains
* Case layout
* Sample Referral
* Equipment Maintenance
* Block & Slide Filing as applicable
Professional qualifications, registration, essential skills & knowledge. Candidates must:
* Possess BSc in Biomedical or Biological Sciences, preferably with a practical background in Histopathology
* Possess at least 1 years' experience in a medical laboratory since qualifying with a science degree
* The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and awareness and sensitivity towards patients needs.
In terms of future opportunities, the successful candidate may have a future opportunity to take part in a Higher Diploma in Medical Scientist course in ATU Galway.
The entry requirements for this course are a Level 8 BSc in Biochemistry or Clinical/Medical Microbiology or Immunology or equivalent including a laboratory-based research project. Applicants must be in employment in a hospital laboratory working to ISO 15189 standard.
