Environmental Officer - ABP Waterford
ABP Food Group, one of Europe's leading privately owned agribusiness organizations, is recruiting for the role of Environmental Officer at its Waterford site, located in Christendom Ferrybank, Co Waterford.
The Environmental Officer manages the on-site waste water treatment plant, advises on license requirements, and ensures compliance with environmental standards. Responsibilities include monitoring discharge, conducting field tests and surveys, collating environmental data, and auditing processes for efficiency and impact. The role involves working in small teams, reporting to the onsite General Manager and the Group Environmental Manager at ABP Cahir HQ.
Work Activities
1. Operate and manage the site Waste Water Treatment Plant to ensure compliant effluent discharge.
2. Perform daily sampling and testing of pH, temperature, COD, ammonia, and nitrogen.
3. Collate data from daily WWTP records and liaise with management to ensure compliance with the site IE License.
4. Follow Standard Operating Procedures and complete record forms as part of the ISO 14001 management system.
5. Attend ISO 14001 and EPA unannounced site inspections.
6. Complete incident and complaints reports with the Group Environmental Officer for authority reporting.
7. Prepare reports for environmental agencies and government bodies.
8. Maintain and update the Environmental Management System.
9. Ensure legislative compliance with all applicable legislation.
10. Conduct internal audits of the site quarterly.
11. Organize contractors for tasks such as bund tank and pipeline testing, chemical purchasing, and other required services.
12. Ensure the site only uses fuels approved under the Green House Gas permit.
13. Maintain compliance with the Green House Gas and IE Licenses.
14. Perform any other administrative duties as required by the Environmental Manager.
Qualifications
A primary degree in environmental or earth sciences, environmental engineering, geography, geophysics, or chemistry is required. Postgraduate qualifications and specialization in specific fields are advantageous for career progression in environmental consultancy.
