Job OverviewAWS is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its global engineering team, responsible for designing and continuously innovating electrical systems that power our rapidly expanding data center footprint.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.Participate in site selection reviews and site planning activities.Design critical data center equipment, including generators, UPS, MV and LV switchgear, transformers, earthing systems, life safety, and fire detection systems.Develop designs that meet or exceed quality requirements and stay within budget.Specify appropriate electrical equipment with regional vendors and manufacturers.Define site utility requirements in partnership with local utilities.Ensure compliance with IEC, EU requirements, building codes, and local agency regulations.Review and approve equipment submittals.Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction.Collaborate with commissioning teams to test, validate, and ensure performance of electrical systems.Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.Travel to sites for reviews, provide engineering evaluations, undertake audits, and support startup activities.Lead within the global group and support Amazon’s data centers through collaboration with internal and external teams.Propose creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions.A Day in the LifeAn Electrical Engineer on our team focuses on designing robust electrical distribution systems that keep our data centers running at world‑class uptime. Daily activities include developing design specifications, reviewing and marking up technical drawings, collaborating with cross‑functional teams on equipment qualifications, conducting site inspections, responding to design inquiries, and presenting work to stakeholders. The role combines desk‑based design work and on‑site activities to ensure seamless transition from concept to construction and explore new technologies to improve facility operation.About the TeamThe team consists of electrical engineers with design engineering backgrounds, many of whom have experience as consulting engineers or electricians, bringing practical knowledge to our projects.Basic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment related to data center electrical and mechanical topology.Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer license.Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.Proficiency using web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.BenefitsWe value work‑life harmony, offering flexible work hours and arrangements to support success at work and home.We provide ongoing mentorship and career‑advancing resources to help you develop into a well‑rounded professional.Diversity & InclusionAmazon is an equal‑opportunity employer.
