Job Purpose: The Medical Registrar plays an important role in the delivery of acute medical care services, and liaises with the Consultant and hospital staff, including nursing staff and other health professionals in providing quality patient care.

Ideal Candidate: Registered with the Medical Council of Ireland MRCPI Qualified or in process of qualification Specific interest in Geriatric/Rehabilitation medicine Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a quality service Personally, and professionally accountable for patient care Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills Flexible approach to work patterns Hour Shifts up to 39 Hours Per Week Ability to document accurately with excellent attention to detail Responsibilities and Experience: The Medical Registrar provides care to all patients who require medical intervention.
The Medical Registrar carries out his or her duties under the direction of the Consultant in charge of the patient and is responsible to the Consultant and to Hospital Management.
Review post-call medical patients routinely and when requested by the admitting Consultant and/or nursing staff.
Complete and sign with Medical Council registration number a legible patient notes for all patient encounters contemporaneously.
Take handover of patients from previous shift Registrar, so that continuity of care is ensured.
All clinical procedures to be carried out as per the clinical needs of the patient indicate and as required/ requested by the relevant Consultant.
Prescribe medications under the direction of the relevant Consultant and to dispense out of hours medication in the absence of the Pharmacist, in accordance with hospital policy.
Ensure that all medications are recorded in the medical records/prescription chart.
Including IV fluid therapy as clinically indicated.
Essential Qualifications: Full registration in the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Irish Medical Council.
Satisfactory post-graduate training and experience in the medical profession.
Membership of the College of Physicians is desirable.
