Job Overview:
The Facilities Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of building systems, utilities, and services to support continuous production. This position requires a hands-on technician with a mechanical or equivalent qualification, ideally with experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or food production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical and utility systems (boilers, HVAC, compressed air, pumps, etc.).
* Support the ongoing operation and maintenance of facility infrastructure, including water treatment systems, waste management, fire systems, and building fabric.
* Respond to facility-related breakdowns and service interruptions, diagnosing and resolving issues promptly to minimise downtime.
* Monitor and log system performance, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (HACCP, GMP, BRC, etc.).
* Assist with installations, commissioning, and upgrades of facility-related equipment and infrastructure.
* Collaborate with production, engineering, and EHS teams to support site operations and continuous improvement projects.
* Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely and to specification.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site's CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
* Participate in energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Minimum NFQ Level 6 (Advanced Certificate) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* At least 3 years of facilities or maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food production environment.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, piping, pumps, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics, and utilities infrastructure.
* Good understanding of health & safety, food safety, and environmental compliance in a regulated setting.
* Experience with BMS, HVAC controls, or CMMS software is an advantage.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Flexibility to work occasional shifts or weekends during critical maintenance windows.
