Die/Mould Technician Job Description
This is a crucial role in ensuring the optimal working condition of dies used in the manufacturing process. As a Die/Mould Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing dies to support production efficiency, product quality, and equipment longevity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Preparing dies/moulds for scheduled die changes
* Maintenance schedule for dies/moulds (cleaning, pins & bushings etc.)
* Die/mould repairs, welding, chroming and etching of the die surfaces as needed to restore functionality.
* Working with external machine shops
* Upkeep of die/mould database
Main Duties Include:
1. Comply with all company EHS policies
2. Die/mould management
o Ability to compete die/mould repairs in-house
o Ability to work with external machine shops to complete major repairs
o Diagnose die/mould related issues during production runs
o Collaborate with Shift Managers, Press Operators, Maintenance and Process Engineers to resolve die related problems
o Recommend design improvements to reduce die/mould wear or failure
o Maintain accurate records of die/mould maintenance and repairs
o Log die/mould usage, downtime, and repair history in die/mould maintenance systems
o Communicate status updates to supervisors and production teams
o Carry out checks on proposed new die/mould improvement, conduct online and offline trials
3. Customer focus
o Communicate with planning, production and quality control on all die/mould related issues
4. Refiner plates
o Build, clean and prepare refiner plates for change-out
o Monitor refiner plate condition and complete parallel checks
5. Analyse samples, customer complaints, competitor and potential supplier samples, maintain records of testing relating to trials & customers
6. Die/mould inspection
o Carry out inspections of new dies
o Update and develop die procedure as required
7. Die/mould profile improvements
o Work with Technical team on profile improvement for current or new die/mould requirements
o Work with designated machine shops on die/mould repairs and upgrades
8. Die/mould development
9. Support and assist in the development of new dies/moulds and dies/mould design for new products
Requirements:
* Level 6 in toolmaking, tool design, tooling, tool setting or a related technical area
* Proficiency in TIG welding, etching and spot chroming
* High level of patience and attention to detail required for complex die repairs
* An advantage (not essential) to hold a Kaizen facilitator certification
* Circa 3 to 5 years or more experience, with demonstrable skills
* Thorough knowledge of machine and toolmaking process
* Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
* Manual dexterity and visual awareness for precision work
* Ability to work as part of a team-based environment or work alone as required without supervision
