MV Specialist Electrical Engineer – Dublin OR Limerick

Role Purpose and Responsibilities
As an MV Specialist Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for MV system related engineering activities on single or multiple construction projects. You will coordinate the technical design with onsite installation through to commissioning, ensuring alignment with Kirby’s vision, mission and values. Responsibilities include:
MV System Project Lead: provide direction for the design and engineering of MV systems on projects, set goals, and align MV progress with the overall project delivery strategy.
Multi-Project Management: lead MV system design and engineering across various projects and regions.
Compile and issue electrical technical submittals; manage submittals through approvals; track procurement and delivery of electrical equipment; verify received equipment.
Attend and record regular supply chain meetings; monitor progress within the construction programme.
Update system trackers aligned with the construction schedule.
Review electrical installation with the BIM team to ensure constructibility and adequate space for installation and maintenance.
Liaise with design team and supply chain to ensure correct plant operation on site and successful handover.
Conduct electrical system walk-downs to verify compliance with specifications and drawings.
Compile test packs, FAT/FTOPs and O&Ms; present for approval.
Manage specialist vendors during commissioning to ensure timely completion.
Undertake client training in line with the agreed training plan.
Regional support: assist construction teams with complex MV system technical issues.
System Modelling & Analysis
Develop, review, and validate MV power system models using ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, CDEGS, or equivalent tools.
Conduct power system studies including load flow, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, motor starting analysis, transient stability, harmonic analysis and power quality assessment, arc-flash hazard assessment, and grounding/resistivity studies.
Ensure modelling inputs and results are consistent with design documents and manufacturer data.
Design Review & Validation
Review designs for MV systems (switchgear, transformers, cables, earthing, relays, protection) to identify gaps and deviations.
Validate sizing, ratings, and specifications of MV equipment against study outputs; validate cable sizing and make recommendations.
Ensure designs comply with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and client requirements; verify integration with LV, HV and control systems.
Leadership, Process Improvement & Collaboration
Support the Project Manager, Electrical Engineering Manager and Design Manager to deliver MV system design and engineering activities.
Attend monthly design meetings to review KPI progress and drive improvements.
Talent development: onboard and develop design and engineering talent; support career paths and training programs.
Engineering process optimisation: improve MV design and engineering processes in line with the Kirby Way.
Knowledge sharing: facilitate workshops and training across regions.
Collaboration: define MV system ownership and responsibilities; work with HR to develop training materials; assist estimating with technical queries; interface with Procurement for product evaluation.
Performance Management & Reporting
Monitor and track the progress and development of graduate electrical engineers.
Audit MV system compliance with design and commissioning procedures; support project engineering reports for MV systems across projects.
Additional Responsibilities
Produce regular Engineering Alerts related to MV systems for circulation across the group (aim for at least one per year).
