Senior Software Engineer Team Lead – Hertz
We are looking for an experienced software engineering Lead to join our team, working on uses cases related to Electric Vehicles (EVs) connected to our Telematics Platform and other Hertz APIs. If you enjoy working with the latest technologies, large volumes of data, and robust reliability in production at scale, this could be the role for you.
Our teams are small and agile, with a startup feel, and there is room to innovate. You 9'll lead integration initiatives for Telematics, including working with 3rd-party engineers to shape API designs for our use cases. This is a Tech Lead role with hands-on engineering and significant growth potential.
What You’ll Do:
* Run daily stand-up meetings with the EV engineering team.
* Participate in additional scrum meetings (planning, retrospectives) with the engineering team and Product Manager.
* Mentor engineering team members and ensure they are not blocked from completing sprint tasks.
* Ensure all team members have tasks assigned.
* Work on estimates and technical architecture designs for new features.
* Collaborate with the Product Manager on sprint priorities.
* Lead feature development with hands-on coding (approximately 70% coding time).
* Collaborate with other Team Leaders in the Connected Vehicle group to align engineering best practices and product deliveries.
* Engage with the Senior Director of Connected Vehicle Development on innovative projects at scale.
What We’re Looking For:
* Leadership, initiative, and the ability to identify integration gaps and plan the steps and resources to address them, working with the Senior Director of Connected Vehicle Development, QA lead, and Principal Engineer.
* Experience leading software engineering teams, preferably in a Scrum environment with engineers and product managers.
* Self-organised with strong communication using Jira and other remote collaboration tools.
* Strong coding experience in Java, Typescript, or Python.
* Experience monitoring APIs for health, usage, rate-limiting, and identifying new product/use-case opportunities from customer usage.
* CloudFormation and CDK experience is desirable; AWS knowledge and experience is essential.
* Familiarity with common cloud architectural patterns.
* Experience automating testing, versioning, releases, deployments, and rollbacks in AWS using Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
* Linux knowledge and Bash scripting are desirable.
* Source control experience with Git, ideally GitHub Enterprise.
* Sense of ownership and pride in performance and its impact on the company’s success.
* Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and time-management skills.
* Team player with interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with a diverse, distributed team.
Desired qualifications
* BSc in Computer Science or equivalent qualification or experience
* AWS certifications are a plus
