Offshore Geotechnical Engineer Offshore Wind Position Description The successful candidate will be an experienced Offshore Geotechnical Engineer responsible for managing ground risk for offshore wind projects in development, with a strong focus on site investigations.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting offshore wind projects across Ireland and the UK, with opportunities to embed into individual project teams as developments progress.
The role involves managing and coordinating tendering and contract award for marine geotechnical and geophysical services, overseeing offshore surveys, and providing geotechnical engineering advice.
You will also contribute to mentoring junior engineers and supporting knowledge sharing within the wider team.
Key Responsibilities Provide expert geotechnical advice and technical leadership on complex offshore projects Scope, procure, and manage offshore geotechnical investigation contracts Coordinate offshore geotechnical and geophysical surveys in line with regulatory and legislative requirements Provide technical oversight of geophysical surveys in collaboration with third-party specialists Undertake detailed geotechnical design and analysis for offshore wind turbine foundations Develop and manage geotechnical risk registers and mitigation plans Maintain up-to-date knowledge of offshore wind geotechnical technologies and best practice Support commercial decision-making and project delivery Carry out design reviews, desk studies, and site evaluations Develop and maintain technical consultancy frameworks Interpret soil and rock parameters Integrate EHS requirements to support safer offshore wind projects Mentor and support the development of junior engineers Knowledge, Skills & Experience Essential Minimum 7 years geotechnical engineering experience, with strong marine/offshore exposure Experience scoping, specifying, and managing offshore geotechnical investigations Familiarity with offshore standards, codes, and best practice Experience using soil mechanics analysis and design software Experience working with challenging marine ground conditions Strong understanding of offshore wind geotechnical research Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience delivering major projects within multidisciplinary teams Strong stakeholder management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Strong organisational and commercial awareness Flexible and proactive approach to work Desirable Experience coordinating and managing offshore geophysical surveys and datasets Qualifications Essential Level 8 degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering, Engineering Geology, or equivalent Desirable Level 9 degree or Ph D in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent Chartered Engineer status Project Management qualification Location & Working Pattern Dublin-based office locations Hybrid working model combining remote work with office attendance depending on project requirements
