Automation Systems Engineer – Celestica
Celestica Galway is a leader in automated manufacturing services, supporting high‑speed automated production lines and new product introductions, particularly in the medical device space.
We are recruiting an experienced Automation Systems Engineer to plan, implement and maintain a comprehensive Factory Systems Infrastructure in line with corporate guidelines and customer requirements. This role involves supporting PLC‑controlled equipment, vision systems, robotics and manufacturing data integrity and security.
Shift patterns:
* Shift A: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and every second Sunday – 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM
* Shift B: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every second Saturday night – 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
* Shift C: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every second Sunday – 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM
* Shift D: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and every second Saturday night – 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
Day‑to‑day activities
* Proactively manage and support existing Automation infrastructure for optimal performance and minimized downtime.
* Collaborate with IT, Application and External Technical Resources for comprehensive support of all Automation and Information Systems.
* Provide technical support to all control system related issues and implement industry best practice for productivity and efficiency.
* Install and deploy systems, software and peripherals, liaising with vendors and service contractors.
* Provide technical direction for new infrastructure developments.
* Develop, implement and manage comprehensive contingency plans for critical systems, including regular documented tests.
* Benchmark system performance and provide regular reports.
* Interface with Corporate Information Systems on standards, support and new infrastructure developments.
* Utilize a Project Management methodology to plan, coordinate and implement key projects within agreed time‑frames and budgets.
* Document all knowledge and procedures to ISO standards.
* Apply Continuous Process Improvement methodologies to improve overall system quality.
* Develop training programmes for Capital Systems Technician line support.
* Contribute innovative inputs to new production lines in control, data collection, motive power, robotics, vision systems and communications.
* Develop and implement process improvements on new and existing lines.

What we are looking for
* A degree in Mechatronics or Automation with 2+ years of relevant experience.
* Experience in ISO13485 medical device manufacturing environment.
* Experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
* Experience with GDP & GMP and GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11 environments.
* Good understanding of Electrical & Pneumatic Panel drawings.
* Experience with Allen Bradley PLC platforms (Control Logix, Studio 5000).
* Experience with Rockwell Software applications (Factory Talk, Transaction packages).
* Essential experience with network topology, PC application software and systematic troubleshooting skills.
* Previous experience of TCP/IP, Wide Area Network architectures, Visual Basic/C++.
* Equipment and Software Validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical Demands
* Office environment duties requiring extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
* Repetitive manual movements (data entry, using a computer mouse, calculator).
* Occasional travel may be required.

* Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or Automation.
