Consultant Cardiologist Cork University Hospital for 26 hours per week and Cork University Maternity Hospital for 11 hours
This is an appointment to the HSE South West Region on a Public Only Consultants' Contract **** by the Health Service Executive.
The initial commitment for this post will be to Cork University Hospital for 26 hours per week and Cork University Maternity Hospital for 11 hours.
This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services.
It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE's National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.
Main Duties of the Job
This post was part funded through the National Heart Programme and Cork University Maternity Hospital to address the deficiencies in advanced cardiac imaging and Cardiology care in pregnancy.
The National Heart Programme has proposed to develop 6 Advanced Imaging Centres (AIC) with a dedicated CMRmagnet and a dedicated CCT scanner, 1 in each Regional Health Authority (RHA) to address the needs of CMR and CCT in each region.
The service will require growth from a low base.
There is currently a very limited advanced cardiac imaging service provided within the Radiology Department in Cork University Hospital, with no dedicated cardiac scanners.
There is modest CCTA and CMR capacity in the Mercy University Hospital and modest CCTA capacity in Mallow General Hospital and University Hospital Kerry.
To lead the development and implementation of an Advanced Cardiac Imaging programme in the South West Region
To develop, lead and provide inpatient (including consultations) and outpatient Cardiology services in his/her base hospital
To provide outpatient and inpatient consultations to women with heart disease in pregnancy
To provide inpatient non-invasive cardiac care (such as acute cardiac care) according to his/her postgraduate training

Information about the organisation
Care is delivered in a variety of settings.
New approaches and models of care to follow the care demands of the Health Service are being advanced within the context of overall healthcare reform, to include Sláintecare.
A team of Consultant Cardiologists working in Cork University Hospital (CUH), the Mercy University Hospital and Integrated Care Community Hubs work together as part of a city wide group, providing Cardiology care to Co.
Cork and the wider Munster area, which have respective populations of 584,156 and 1,373,346 according to the **** census.
The Cardiology service at CUH provides inpatient and outpatient care, non-invasive diagnostics, interventional cardiology (coronary stenting, percutaneous aortic valve replacement, balloon mitral valvuloplasty and ASD/PFO closure), invasive cardiac electrophysiology (EP) and cardiac rehabilitation.

The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants' Contract ****.
Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st February ****
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
