The Opportunity
As Head of Engineering, you will lead a multi-disciplinary function spanning engineering, maintenance, and facilities. You will define strategy, influence key investment decisions, and drive a culture of high performance, accountability, and innovation.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Shape and implement a forward-thinking engineering strategy aligned to business growth
Lead all major technical decisions, from system design to infrastructure investment
Establish best-in-class engineering standards, processes, and documentation
Plan future resource needs, including team structure, technology, and capital investment
Champion a proactive maintenance culture, shifting towards predictive and preventative approaches
Lead investigations into critical incidents, ensuring robust corrective actions are embedded
Continuously elevate site standards across all equipment and infrastructure
Oversee delivery of key engineering and site projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
Manage departmental spend with a sharp focus on value and return on investment
Evaluate projects using data-driven insights and cost-benefit analysis
Inspire, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering and facilities team
Create a culture rooted in safety, ownership, and continuous development
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders
Drive ongoing improvements across engineering processes, systems, and performance metrics
Introduce and monitor KPIs to optimise efficiency and output
Prioritise initiatives that deliver the greatest operational and strategic value
Foster innovation through collaboration and feedback across teams
Ensure all site infrastructure is maintained to the highest standard
Oversee contractor management and ensure all site work is carried out safely and efficiently
Support ongoing site upgrades and compliance initiatives
Provide clear, data-led updates on performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership
Ensure full compliance with all health & safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
What We’re Looking For
Proven track record in a senior engineering leadership role within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment
Strong technical background across mechanical, electrical, automation, or systems engineering
Experience leading teams and delivering complex engineering projects at scale
Deep understanding of maintenance strategies, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement
Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasting, and supplier relationships
Exposure to automated systems, industrial IT, or maintenance management systems
Experience working with temperature-controlled systems
