Role Summary
The Senior Automotive Electrician is responsible for expert diagnosis, repair, installation, and maintenance of complex electrical and electronic systems on heavy and standard fleet vehicles. The role includes providing hands‑on leadership, mentorship, and technical support to the electrical team while ensuring strict adherence to all safety and quality compliance standards. Responsibilities also include inventory management and recommending new diagnostic technology.

Key Responsibilities
* Repair and fit-out vehicles; diagnose and repair electrical faults in heavy and standard fleet vehicles promptly.
* Utilise specialised diagnostic tools and software to identify faults in vehicle electrical systems.
* Install, inspect, and repair wiring, control systems, and electrical components on both new and existing vehicles.
* Install and configure electronic systems such as GPS, sensors, reverse cameras, beacons, inverters, and other telematics.
* Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to minimise downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
* Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior electricians and apprentices, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
* Lead the electrical maintenance team in complex repairs and installations, offering hands‑on support and technical expertise.
* Conduct performance assessments and assist in workforce planning to maintain high team productivity.
* Ensure all work complies with local and national safety regulations and company safety policies.
* Conduct thorough checks to confirm that all repairs and installations are correctly completed and meet quality standards.
* Maintain documentation of all repairs, diagnostics, and installations for auditing and future reference.
* Assist in managing the electrical maintenance inventory, ensuring availability of parts, tools, and materials. Recommend new tools or software that could improve diagnostics and repair times.
Qualifications & Experience
* QQI Level 6 Motor Mechanic Qualification (mandatory).
* Minimum of 5‑7 years' experience in automotive electrical systems, with significant experience in diagnostics, repair, and installations on a variety of vehicles.

* Diagnostic Skills: Advanced knowledge in diagnosing complex electrical faults and using diagnostic software/tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes).
* Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, capable of addressing and resolving issues efficiently.
* Communication Skills: Excellent communication to relay complex information to team members and provide clear instructions.
* Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in diagnostics, repairs, and documentation to maintain quality and safety.
* Leadership and Teamwork: Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of junior electricians and apprentices.
