Following a competitive process based on an annual Call for Applications from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the HEA approved a senior academic leadership post for MTU in the area of Cybersecurity to assist in accelerating gender balance at senior levels.
Munster Technological University (MTU) is at the epicentre of Irelands cybersecurity landscape, having pioneered education and research excellence.

The Cyber Explore research group (Cyber Explore) at MTU is on a mission to strengthen the security of Irelands digital assets and resilience of its critical infrastructure.
Its core aim is to securely blend the digital world, while protecting everyone and making systems more resilient to cybersecurity by fostering skills, research and innovation.
Cyber Explore undertakes many cybersecurity projects addressing all stages of technological development.
These initiatives benefit from varied partnerships and funding, including Enterprise Ireland Innovators Initiative (Cyber-Innovate), Innovation Vouchers and partnerships, Research Ireland Research Centres (CONNECT, LERO, ADAPT), National Challenge Fund, Discover, and Research Training, SEAI, Horizon Europe and Digital Europe.
A key aspect of Cyber Explore is its investment in infrastructure for cutting edge research and training.
This has led to a unique national cyber-range infrastructure a collaborative effort between MTU, UL, and TU Dublin to create a top-class training and research facility in Ireland.
Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: A relevant PhD, or an equivalent professional qualification.
Expertise in Cybersecurity, a sub-discipline or a closely related discipline area such as Network Security, Cryptography and Encryption, Malware Analysis or Secure Software Development.
At least 5 years relevant post graduate experience.
Key Responsibilities: The successful appointee will be expected to: Develop, lead, and manage a multi-disciplinary research team, Cyber Explore, in overseeing its day-to-day operations, including budget, project management and governance.
Play a pivotal role in the development and execution of the broader ICT research strategy for MTU.
Develop and lead the Centre status designation application for the current Cyber Explore research group.
Lead in the securing of research, innovation, and educational funding to grow and sustain Cyber Explore, that aligns with the research entities strategic plan and the Universitys Strategic Plan.
Establish multi-group, cross-disciplinary, national, and international collaborations for the purpose of advancing Cyber Explore, with a particular focus on evolving national and EU policy and funding landscape.
Advance the development of the Universitys research infrastructure to support teaching, learning and research activities.
Represent MTU at the highest level externally, promoting the university and its cybersecurity activities, leading briefings to a wide variety of stakeholders and media.
Develop meaningful engagement with industry and other external stakeholders, with the aim of advancing Cyber Explores mission by fostering skills, education, research, and innovation.
Contribute to national research centers and initiatives of strategic importance to the economy and society.
Advance the Universitys commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Promote ICT and cybersecurity careers, promoting young professionals, and build a programme of EPE activities that can are aligned to Cyber Explore mission and that can be scaled to achieve greater impact.
Ensure the quality, integrity and consistency of scientific research output.
