Your new companyA large public‑sector organisation is seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join its Finance, Procurement & Estates Directorate. This Band 7 role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of statutory reporting, financial governance and systems integrity within a complex environment.Your new roleReporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will manage the corporate financial accounting function and lead a small team in delivering accurate statutory accounts, monthly reporting and financial governance. You will ensure compliance with departmental and statutory requirements while supporting continuous improvement across processes, systems and controls.Key responsibilities Lead and manage the Corporate Accounting & Systems teamPrepare monthly financial reports and annual statutory accountsOversee control accounts, reconciliations and financial governanceMaintain and develop financial systems and general ledger structuresSupport capital accounting, year‑end processes and external auditProduce statutory returns and liaise with internal/external stakeholdersEnsure strong financial controls, policies and compliance standardsDeputise for the Senior Financial Accountant when requiredWhat you'll need to succeedEssential:CCAB‑qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIPFA, etc.)Minimum 2 years' post‑qualification experience in statutory accounts preparationExperience leading staff and managing workloadsExperience delivering improvements within a finance functionStrong communication, organisation and problem‑solving skillsExcellent understanding of GAAP/IFRS and financial governanceProficient in Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelFull UK driving licence and access to transportDesirable:Experience implementing change initiativesExperience working with multiple stakeholdersSystems development or ERP experienceWhat you'll get in returnYou will join a respected, complex organisation where you will play a key role in strengthening financial governance and service performance.
