Background
Kildalton is the largest Teagasc college and a leading provider of training in Agriculture, Horticulture and Equine Studies in Ireland, with over 1,400 students attending courses every year. It offers QQI‑accredited courses at levels 5 and 6, and partnerships with SETU for levels 7 and 8. The college has extensive horticultural facilities, including orchards, soft fruit and vegetable production units.
Basic Function
Operate as part of the horticultural team, developing, promoting and delivering education and training. Provide technical support and coordinate management, operation and running of the fruit and vegetable unit in line with enterprise plans.
Job Objectives
* Prepare, coordinate, deliver and assess practical skills training in line with the approved curriculum and provide feedback to students.
* Manage the health, safety and welfare of students and implement health and safety policy.
* Maintain student training records.
* Implement quality assurance policies, including internal verification.
* Supervise students on work experience.
* Provide material for practicals, open days, in‑service training and educational exhibits.
* Assist management and administrative staff in good governance and risk management through cooperation and adherence to procedures.
* Play a key role in the fruit and vegetable unit to facilitate innovation and development opportunities in sustainable food production.
* Coordinate and liaise with other horticultural staff for management, maintenance and development of the unit.
* Plan daily/weekly/seasonal work programs and implement crop plans.
* Support management of horticultural machinery and equipment.
* Supervise and manage farm staff, including external contract/agency staff and students.
* Maintain physical records for students and enterprise.
* Assist Teagasc in meeting commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
* Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
* Cooperate with provisions ensuring health, safety and welfare for themselves, staff and non‑Teagasc staff and comply with legal obligations. Full compliance with responsibilities in the Safety Statement.
* Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
