HygieneJob PurposeTo lead a team of hygiene operators in achieving their daily targets, yields and efficiencies through effective cleaning / handover of the factoryReports ToHygiene ManagerKey ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:Ensure all aspects of the hygiene service are carried out and maintained to required standardSchedule the annual, bi-annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily cleaning schedules into a concise and achievable weekly plan in line with staff availabilityMaintain and keep up to date, the cleaning sequence in line with the Hygiene Management System and ensure strict adherence to the sequence by hygiene operativesSupervise, assist, and audit the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule including paperwork sign off to verify acceptable standards of cleaning have been metUpdate, maintain, and regularly review hygiene records and schedulesManage the hygiene team working hours and ensure all expenditure is authorized and recordedManage the ordering and stock control of hygiene consumables and chemicalsMaintain detailed cleaning instructions (CIC'S) and standard operating procedures (SOP's) and schedules for every hygiene activity that meet the requirements of the BRC and other relevant customer food safety standardsFamiliar with the COSHH system, make sure all SDS are in placeWork with other teams to keep high standards (Maintenance, Technical, Production & H&S)Resolve any issues resulting from hygiene activities; analyze production hand-over and non conformance reports and commence corrective actionsLiaise with the appropriate departments to reconcile issues resulting from or impacting on the hygiene department i.e. maintenance issues, or end of production standardsResponsible for periodic cleaning of air handling evaporators and refrigerant evaporators in the high-care and low-care areasOversee the day-to-day upkeep of the staff facilities including staff washroom facilities, offices, corridors, canteen, changing areas, and all associated equipmentConduct compliance audits/ inspections of internal hygiene standards and documentationManage the provision of hygiene chemicals and dosing equipment on site – to include regular reviews with chemical supplier, daily chemical dosing checks, maintenance of equipment, and to oversee the safe storage, decant, transport, and use of chemicals on siteUnderstand any possible changing cleaning and chemical needs of the site. Keep abreast of advances in the industry to gain an improved understanding of cleaning practices, chemical efficacies, and industry regulationsCarry out ATP, Environmental, and Pathogen swabs as per schedule. Support the Technical team in obtaining daily ATP swabs and other microbiological swabs as required for testing. Participate in microbiological investigations or projects to drive improvements in the site hygiene standardsConduct trials of new chemicals and equipment to drive continuous improvement in the cleaning and hygiene standardsEnsure all new equipment is assessed and has an up-to-date CICEnsure sufficient staffing levels are in place to cover all absences and holidaysHealth & SafetyConduct COSHH (or equivalent) assessments, risk assessments and document safe systems of work for all hygiene tasksEnsure hygiene staff are trained and competent in all procedures relevant to their role including the use of heavy equipment and machinery already listed aboveProvide emergency response training for all relevant staffEnsure all tasks are conducted in accordance with all legislative, company, and site health & safety policies. Ensure all hazards, accidents / incidents are reported, and investigated in a timely mannerTo ensure material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product information (PI) for all chemicals used on site are maintained, updated regularly and are accessible to all relevant staffEnsure PPE is available and well maintained for all relevant staff and is used in line with site health & safety policiesBe an active member of the site Health & Safety CommitteeOtherRecruit, induct, train, and develop competent employeesProvide cover in the event of inadequate staffing due to unforeseen circumstances such as sicknessEnsure all disciplinary incidents and staff absences are dealt with in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with the company human resource policiesEffectively communicate with all team members on a regular basis and provide opportunities for feedbackDevelop strong working relationships and participate in projects as requested to drive continuous improvementProvide key performance indicator data as required and comply with all internal and external audit requirements, including representation of the Hygiene Department during key customer auditsActively comply with, and enforce all relevant statutory, company, and site policies and proceduresConduct employee Performance Development Reviews on a regular basis and establish training and development plansCarry out any reasonable request of your line manager in order to meet the needs of the businessTo be available for any Training related to the roleSkills / Qualifications / ExperienceA competent professional with proven experience of managing and leading a hygiene team within a food manufacturing environmentFlexible approach to working and committed to working evening/ night shifts and occasional weekendsExperience of working within a compliance / standard driven environment to BRC level or equivalent regulating bodies. Understanding of a Food Production facilityProven experience of driving improvements in site standardsIndustry acumen and knowledge of cleaning systems and methodology essentialUnderstanding of chemical components, active ingredients, and their targeted use against the range of microbiological activity associated with food manufacturing sitesExperience of budget management and reportingExperience of managing waste segregation and recycling servicesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate othersExperience of conducting training on both a 1:1 basis and in small groupsGood English written and verbal communication skills essentialExcellent Leadership & People Management skillsPlanning and organising of staff, time and work schedulesAbility to communicate across a wide range of interested parties including direct reports, external suppliers, other factory departmentsStrong attention to detailExcellent problem-solving skillsComputer literate, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and ProjectsAbility to solve problems/offer solutionsNote: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time.
