Role Overview The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene within a busy corporate catering environment.
This position supports chefs and catering staff by ensuring the kitchen runs efficiently, equipment is clean and ready for use, and all food preparation areas are maintained to company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities Kitchen Cleaning Maintenance Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas, including floors, surfaces, and storage rooms.
Wash and sanitise all crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, and utensils.
Clean food preparation stations and assist with endofday deep cleaning routines.
Operate and maintain commercial dishwashers safely and efficiently.
Equipment Stock Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and stored correctly.
Assist with deliveries: accepting, unloading, and storing supplies according to food safety standards.
Monitor stock of cleaning chemicals, paper goods, and kitchen consumables.
Report any maintenance issues, broken equipment, or hazards to the Catering Manager/Head Chef.
Food Safety Hygiene Follow HACCP standards and company hygiene procedures.
Ensure correct waste disposal, recycling, and segregation of food waste.
Support compliance with environmental health and workplace safety regulations.
Team Support Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks as required.
Work collaboratively with the catering team to ensure smooth service.
Support set-up and clearing of catering events, functions, and corporate lunches.
Skills Qualifications Essential Strong work ethic and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Good understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety practices.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Physical stamina to perform manual tasks, lift crates, and stand for long periods.
Desirable Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or catering environment.
Basic food hygiene certificate (Level 1 or Level 2).
Familiarity with HACCP procedures.
